Rivendell is an Elven refuge in Middle-earth, and it was a welcome land to the peaceful and the oppressed. It was not usually meant to be place of armaments or battle, but of study and wisdom. Thank you all so much for watching, please let me know your thoughts about Rivendell in the comments below! As always, a great thanks to the online artists whose visual works made this video possible! If you are one of the artists, please let me know and I will post your name and a link to your work in this description!

Hey everyone, I hope you guys liked the video! I apologize for the quietness of the audio in this video, as there were some issues in production. My microphone kept picking up my computer’s fan (this usually never happens) so I had to turn the gain down for clean audio. I’ll work on it and by next week it should be better! If you guys have any suggestions for cleaner audio, please just let me know. Thank you all for understanding!

Once again you have done a fantastic video here; Rivendell has always been one of my favourite locations in Middle Earth as the Elves are one of my favourite races.

As for why the sea is not more represented in Rivendell I think it may be cause the sea embodied something rather bitter sweet for the Children of Ilúvatar, because they may be returning home but in many ways Middle Earth had become as much a home for them home as Valinor. So while the sea was the way forward for them, in taking that journey something would be lost and this saddened the Elves. They did not wish to be reminded of the inevitable sorrow at saying goodbye to a place in which their fate and the fate of so many others had been for entwined for so long. They wanted Rivendell to be a place to celebrate and enjoy their lives in Middle Earth rather than be reminded of the day they would have to part with it forever. That, I think, is why the sea is not so prominently represented in Rivendell.

After having been sick for the past few days this video definitely lifted my spirits. Which considering Rivendell was a place of healing as well kind of makes sense. 🙂Great video as always Yoystan.

Great Video Yoystan, the history of Rivendell has always been a subject I liked researching. I've always liked the "Hidden City" trope.

Wait wait wait wait... Elrond is the brother of the start of Elendil‘s and Isildur’s line, and their line ends in Aragorn. And Aragorn marries Arwen, the daughter of Elrond. This relationship sounds... Hapsburgian. Aragorn is truly royalty. And his sons would be very powerful, what with being heirs to the Kingdoms of Men, related to Elrond, and being great grandchildren of Galadriel.

First of all, awesome as always. This overall theme of sadness for leaving Middle-Earth can be understood as a parallel for the reader, when we finish the books and move forward to other authors, but still miss and revisit Tolkien, because of all the time we passed in Arda and the wonder of the things not mentioned and still to be explored.
Second, how about making a series of "Discussion Videos"? Your last one on why the fellowship didn't just fly to Mordor gave me the idea. The series could follow a very simple logic:
1)One or two weeks before you would ask for opinions on the matter, maybe some introductory content presenting the main issues or something like that.
2) People would comment(it would be nice to have something like Discord as well, so the discussion would have more depth instead of being limited to the comment section) their opinions and theories
3)New discussion video

There are many more or less unexplored questions in the Tolkien Legendarium(nature of Orcs, nature of the Peredhil, etc) and, as I said before, discussing it is like staying in Imladris for a while remembering the past and glory of Arda. I hope the channel grows and you continue to guide many travelers through Tolkien's stories, master Yoystan

To why there is no mention of the Sea in Imladris. Because of Sea Longing in the Elves. Their desire to rest in Valinor. Legolis spoke of the sound of gulls and his awakening desire to the sea and the West.

Shit man, I have been watching your videos for nearly a year now and this is the first time that your description has ever made me misty eyed. An amazingly well done discussion on what Rivendell truly means.

"His (Elrond) house was perfect, whether you like food, or sleep, or work, or story-telling, or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Evil things did not come into that valley." - The Hobbit
This passage sums up for me.

I enjoy this channel so much and you Sir do a fantastic job talking about and going over Tolkiens work. It's amazing how one persons imagination can make a world so real in our minds. There's just so much to the history of middle earth. There's always something to learn about.
