I can't imagine how Bilbo was able to travel so extensively, while dragging his mithril-plated balls around.

The Hobbit that Burgled his way into our hearts and took it as his 1/14 share.

Bilbo isn't the oldest hobbit, though he is at the time he sails to the Havens. There was one hobbit who had the Ring much longer, proceeded to live centuries, and his name was Smeagol. Well, he was a Stoor hobbit, but a hobbit nonetheless.

The way you tell their histories and explain Middle Earth really does justice to Tolkien's writing. I believe he would be proud of you work if he ever was to see it, sir.

Gandalf must have been worrying about who to bring on as the burglar and thought, “what about that young Baggins fellow?” and went all the way to Bag-End only to find out he isn’t there and is waiting for the Elves and then thought, “Oh, he’s PERFECT.”

My favourite hobbit. I find him incredibly inspiring. As someone else had commented, Hobbits can move mountains, but they move hearts more.
Thank you, Nerd of the Rings!

Bilbo's adventure introduced me to the Middle Earth, that's why he is my favorite hobbit, followed by Sam.

Which of the hobbits is your favorite? Personally, I'm partial to Bilbo. I just love how adventurous he is!

Bilbo has been in my heart since my dad showed me the old 70s cartoon hobbit movie when I was 6 or 7, inspiring me to read the book in 3rd grade. I still remember being indignant that the cartoon had left out Beorn after I read the book!

Bilbo may have been a bit unhobbitlike but he certainly had courage and heart and we love him so much for it.

I think that Gandalf chose Bilbo for the mission of burgler due to his heritage on his mother's side of the family. (The rather flambouyant Balladonna Took) He saw the hidden potential of the little Hobbit that led to him saying later on during the mission: 'there's more to you than meets the eye.'

Isnt funny that we all love hobbits, lots of people say we'd love to live in the shire, and lots of people's favorite hobbit is Bilbo, because he's adventurous! so we love him for NOT acting like a hobbit? He does the very thing a hobbit shouldn't do lol have a great day everyone

Bilbo starts his adventures at the age of 44, well, there's still time for me.
Thanks for the great video!

Bilbo is one of the greatest fictional characters ever created. He is our gateway into Middle Earth.

I greatly appreciate that you seek, use and reference all these drawings and paintings! Especially in a video like this one, which could be easily populated by Peter Jackson's movie stills and related art. It's very inspiring to look at all these artists' imagination of Middle-earth!
Another great video :)

Bilbo is such an endearing character and I think Ian Holm did a brilliant job portraying him. Rest in peace Sir Ian Holm.

I watch your videos almost daily and get excited whenever there's a new one. I love the way you explain things clearly, wonderful artwork in the background, clear indications of the timeline, etc... The list goes on. Being an avid fan of Middle Earth lore, I can't get enough of all these videos. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos, you truly bring happiness to me and definitely countless other LOTR/Hobbit/Silmarillion fans too. Keep doing what you do. Blessings from Finland!
