I'm not so much a 'distro hopper' - more of a 'distro trier!'. I've installed many distros on spare laptops I have hanging around, and it's been fun, but my main desktop pc, used for everyday use and gaming, has always been installed with Xubuntu. It's super reliable, stable, and crazy fast on my 512Gb ssd. With a little work, you can also make Xubuntu look modern and beautiful. Thanks for a great video. :)

At 2:45, looking at the ram, I see that Lubuntu has been running for 12 minutes, and Xubuntu has been running for more than 60 minutes. Probably not a fair comparison.

I can see that LXQt is more aesthetically irregular than XFCE (lightening's no excuse).

so lxqt is still the lightest de possible.
even after qt shift.

I say Ex-Ubuntu. Sounds 'gooder' :-D
Apart from that, Xubuntu has been the most successful of all distributions that I have tried to install on my variety of old and new laptops. It has never failed to boot, install and work, whereas many other versions of the Ubuntu, Arch, SuSE, Fedora and other independent builds have failed either to boot, to install or work properly on many systems from HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, Dell, Samsung etc.

Good review. Tried many flavors of Linux on an older Acer laptop (including Lubuntu), but just couldn't get the speed I needed, even after doubling the RAM. Finally replaced the hard disk with a 240GB SSD. The difference was night and day! Reinstalled Lubuntu and am so far pleased with it performance. Only complaint is that it's lacking GUI for a few key settings such as enabling/disabling the desktop switcher on the mouse scroll wheel (looked it up and was able to do so with some edits to the Openbox config file). Other than that Lubuntu seems to be a decent lightweight OS for use on older machines where resources are limited by today's standards. Thanks for the info!

Support for older machines has been DROPPED in 20.04. Also dropped: GTK2. You now have to run the mess that's a bunch of different incompatible versions of GTK3 unless everything you want runs on the latest one. Also, the "Notes" application on Xubuntu 20.04 is NOT compatable with the xfwm4 window manager version that it ships with! You'll have to replace it with say, Gnotes or NobleNote. No longer will you find a *buntu that runs 32-bit. So, for those old but not useless laptops or other machines, try something like MX.
And let me tell you, trying to write your own xfwm or GTK3 themes... much harder than with GTK2 (and doesn't work as well.) Also, make sure you've got the revision that supports AMD hardware if you're running it.

Great video! Xubuntu's seems to have gotten heavier, I'll have to turn off some applications from session and startup.

My problem with the lubuntu is, that it cannot run near windows XP - 32 bit version, because of it sayed, it vouldn't install the Grub. :-( Xubuntu workks much better on a virtual machine in virtual box. So this is interesting. 😞

My Linux mint MATE uses slightly less RAM than Xubuntu ( then, what's the point of XFCE )

Can I install Lubuntu in laptop with Core 2 Duo and 2 GB RAM? Will it be overkill?

I've tried both and it's Xubuntu for me. It wins hands down :<)

Xfce on vanilla debian uses 285-350 megs of ram, i wonder why on another distro it takes so much ram...🙄🙄

Even 500 ram that no much. Windows 10 takes around 1.5 gigs just running. Windows 11 have in requirements 4 gigabit of ram. So half your 8 gigs stick, going to power up Cortana?

Lubuntu está super leve....teste também a versão beta do plasma neon está tão leve quanto o XFCE😁😁😁

Your lubuntu has 960x1016 resolution and xubuntu has 1920x1080. Shouldn't it matter for ram usage?

i think one supports ZFS and one does not
