I’m still crying 3 days later, Rush and Neil hugely impacted my life and got me through some very tough times, including my dads illness and death. I’ve been a Rush maniac since the mid 70’s. RIP Professor Neil, you have no idea how much you’re missed. Fly by night dear Neil. ❤️❤️❤️❤️💔💔💔💔😢😢😢😢

Neil Peart is a drummer and a lyricist that was on a whole different level. I saw Rush twice live. An iconic Canadian band. May Neil Peart rest in peace.

Inarguably the most influential rock drummer of his generation, and for most of us, all time. But it was his lyrics that set Rush apart from any other comparison. Growing up in Southern Ontario, when I first got the 45 of Spirit of Radio, and the B-side Circumstances, I was hooked. Soon I too was playing drums and composing all the lyrics in my bands. But I was no Neil Peart. Neither were any of us. Ride on Professor, and thanks for making me think in new ways about music, life, and rhythm.

Hi John,
I am still overwhelmed with this loss. I am a lover of poetry, a lover of Rush... for they were my first musical love. My first concert. So my grieving process will be to indulge into their concerts and music as my way of nurturing that love still and feed on that magnificent legacy this beautiful legend along with those incredible cohorts helped forge. Giving us wings with his beautiful words and technical rhythmic magnificence and prowess.

I'm 70 years old and I have been listening to Rush for more years than I care to remember. I count myself lucky as I have seen them play several times here in the U.K. Hardly a week goes by when I don't at some point have a Rush album on in my home or car. Playing those wonderful albums will never be the same again. RIP to the master of his art.

Let's not forget all of his vision, fascinating imagery and prolific imagination that he put into writing lyrics for the band! He was a Master at the helm of the drum kit as well as a remarkable and caring human being. You shall be greatly missed.

The loss of Neil Peart hit me hard, it was like a sucker punch and truly heart breaking. I’ve been a fan since 1975. Being a musician myself I would listen to everything Rush did, besides the brilliance of their music, the lyrics grabbed me and touch me. Neil wrote from what he was reading, from his experience and at times from his heart and mind. His word craft was brilliant. Back in the 70’s my friends and I would referred to Rush as the thinking mans band. Why? Because Neil wrote lyrics that either told a story, 2112, made a political or social statement, The Trees, or gave you a glimpse into who he was, Free Will. Now these are the first songs that came to mind, there are dozens of songs that fit into these areas and they touched on so much more. They called him the professor, I find that to be an accurate title. Neil Peart was a Genius not only behind his drum kit, where he had no equal but over all I believe he was a genius. I look at the books he has written, the content of his lyrics and can only conclude that he was above the norm in brilliance. Neil and his band mates also let the fans in to their world just a little. In the videos pre concert they poked fun at themselves, on stage they had fun and you could plainly see that they were close friends. This is unheard of in rock music. They were approachable and kind and they adored their fans. They played to us and drew us into their world for 3 plus hours of music. So when they announced his passing on Friday, to the true fan, it was like losing family. For forty years some of us had Rush as our daily sound track. This loss goes way beyond he fan though. Neil was the master of drums and that loss to the world of music is unimaginable. Look at the comments offered by countless musicians his influence was deep in the world of music. Neil, Rest In Peace. And, thank you.

NEIL PEART: Sept. 12, 1952--Jan. 7, 2020
My first exposure to Rush came in the summer of 1979 when I first heard Neil's now iconic solo from their first live album--recorded in their hometown of Toronto, which is also where they recorded their final live album four years ago. I am even more grateful now, considering they only played 34 dates on the R40 tour, that they chose to come to MY hometown and that I was able to see them one last time. My taste in music in general and rock n roll specifically, took a major turn as I listened to and tried to understand Neil's thought-provoking and sometimes controversial ("Freewill") lyrics. Then, of course, there was his playing...which speaks for itself. Neil and his bandmates had many nicknames for one another, but I think my favorite for Neil is perhaps his most well-known, the one that best speaks to his skill with the pen... and behind the kit: the Professor.
"You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice, if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice; you can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill, I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose freewill."
Rest In Peace, Neil. You are and will be sorely missed : (

I read that all his drum equipment will be donated to Canadian public schools. Each of the 15, 500 schools selected will receive 3 pieces of equipment. If you add that up Neil Peart had over 46, 000 pieces of drum equipment. Amazing.
