STOP Saying 'INVESTMENT' For Wedding Photography

I get it, you want to say something other then pricing or packages but "Investment" isn't it. When you invest you generally expect a return on your investment. In this case you are getting photos that will not go up in monetary value. Sure they have personal importance but investment sounds so dam cold.

Dutch angle can be used in automotive photography to show more dynamic movement, In regards to wedding photos, I also don't think it has a place.

English may not be the couples first language, the confusing grammar and writing is not surprising. Probably the best they can do.

Agreed.
- “How much does this box of cereal cost?”
- “Oh sir, it costs nothing but it requires an investment of $2.25.” 🙄

"Investment" (in wedding photography) is a physiological term used to validate higher pricing. It's marketing. It's like when car companies use the term "Certified Pre Owned" instead of "Used car section". In a way it can sometimes be an emotional investment depending on the situation. Not saying it's right or wrong. Just trying to explain to whoever may not "get it"

Too many words is right. As an editor, I think people should hire an editor to look over their mission statements, bios, descriptions, etc. for any business website or documentation.

I do not trust photographers that use the word "Investment" on their website. They sound like they are loan sharks or a banks. It's not like the couples are investing money to get interest or profit from the photos.

I agree with you on investment. It doesnt really make much sense, and pricing works. People know what that means, and they look for it. I think I know what they were going for....as in....flowers die, cake gets eaten, but photos and videos last a long time so it's....an "investment"? But....there's still a better word to be used there, for sure

To the owners of any photography business that gets critiqued by Jared. Keep in mind that he hates Peter Lik who is a millionaire photographer that makes Jared look like he is on welfare.

I don’t say this to disrespect Jared, but to make it clear that the only opinions that matter are the opinions of your customers who actually PAY you.

But constructive criticism is always good, and who better than a photographer like Jared.

I think often photographer are using the word "investment" because in the world of phonetography people are loosing a sense of the value of a good photograph. When couples are trying to save money they often think "oh well everyone is going o be taking pictures anyway so I don't have to hire a photographer" or "why are wedding photographers so expensive? All they are doing is taking pictures" and then these same couples regret it when all they have are crappy photos of their big day. Photographers are trying to get people to see that 100 years from now when everyone who was at the wedding is dead all that will be left are those photographs so instead of spending all of your money on flowers that will die and food that will be eaten spend it on the photographs

Investment makes total sense to me in this scenario. As you said, everything else dies away or is never used again. The photos and video live on and therefore offer a great investment. It’s an investment in their wedding memories which will be worth way more in 20 years than what they’ll pay for it at the time of booking. Plus it sounds like it’s going to be expensive so if you’re trying to set client expectation then that might help. I’d argue to the contra though that it’s become overused so has started to lose its appeal to me personally.
