How To Allocate More RAM To Any Version Of Minecraft

How's it going, guys? In this video, I show you how to allocate more RAM to Minecraft 1.6.1, since the old method does not work on the new Minecraft launcher.

► Instructions ◄

1. Open the new Minecraft launcher.

2. Click "Edit Profile" (or "New Profile" if you want).

3. Check "JVM Arguments".

4. You should now see "-Xmx1G". Change the "1" to the amount of Gigabytes of RAM you want allocated to Minecraft. However, if you want to be more precise, you can change the "G" to "M" to control the amount of Megabytes of RAM allocated to Minecraft.

0.5 Gb = 512 Mb
1 Gb = 1024 Mb
2 Gb = 2048 Mb
3 Gb = 3072 Mb and so on.

That's what it's supposed to do! Minecraft is only allowed to use 1 Gb of your RAM on default, but if you increase that number, it allows it to get better framerates (not all the time) and you're a lot less likely to get the "Out of memory" error.

Have you tried checking out my other video showing a fix to this problem? It doesn't work for everyone, and make sure that if you have a 64-bit operating system, you also have a 64-bit Java installed.

Quick note: You can use -Xmn#G where # is the number of gigs you would like to allocate as a minimum amount. So for a 4G minimum and 8G max, it will be:
-Xmn4G -Xmx8G

Your Minecraft has more memory to look up to, which means it lags less most of the time. It's an even greater help if you're using resource demanding mods or texture packs.

In the JVM arguments box I took out (cut and pasted into my notes) XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+CMSIncrementalMode -

XX:-UseAdaptiveSizePolicy -Xmn128M, and it seems to have fixed my problem with the could not create java virtual machine error. Although I also upgraded to 64 bit Java so I don't know which one could have fixed it, or if it was both.

When I allocate 8 GB to Minecraft, when I press F3 and look at the top right, it says I allocated 455MB, which I looked up and it equals less than 1. :I

i have 3gb of ram and i am trying to allocate 2g. if i put anything more then 1g, it crashes the game and sends me back to the launcher. I have 1gb ram and 2 500mb ram.

I tired to do this and now my launcher does absolutely nothing. I tried to give my game 10G of RAM(I have 16G) and now I cannot even play the game.... any solutions?
