Why is this man diving horizontal around them.. were the group not briefed on how to dive with oceanics?

First mistake, should have stayed vertical instead of horizontal, and not let it swim this close. The shark was circling for a while and getting closer and closer each time. And the last mistake was letting it swim past without having eye contact. All this made the shark want to check if this was a prey or not, alas the bite. Guide should have informed them better of the sharks behaviours beforehand, hopefully this wasn´t a fatal mistake.

The shark bit because of mistaken identity and to test what was there. If you notice, the shark bites and then swims off...it doesn't keep attacking. It figures out that what it bit was not what it wanted or what it thought it was. This rarely happens...just be aware of your surroundings.
