Here are some of the dumbest minimalist problems I encountered in my life (and some suggestions on how to solve them). Mostly from the time when I was into extreme minimalism, and I just had to get rid of everything ;-D

TOC : Why minimalism sucks (sometimes)

0:00 Intro
0:24 Being not so "independent" after all
2:34 Depending on other people's stuff
3:44 Basically being a nerd
4:59 Relationships
6:25 Material cravings
7:48 The issue with my apartment
8:39 Not being able to brag at the opera
9:43 Wasting energy or being cold
11:23 Socks in the shower
12:57 Wear and tear

I hope it is clear, that I am mostly being sarcastic and silly. Most minimalism problems are really just first world problems in my opinion and also minimalism stereotypes. Basically, minimalism makes life easier and it will probably always be the lifestyle of my choice.

Is Minimalism bad?

Minimalism is bad, if you take it to an extreme. And I am not saying that extreme minimalism is bad. What I mean is that at some point, when it just gets silly and impractical, you should be honest with yourself and not do minimalism just to be more minimalist...

L'enfer, c'est les autres...

I personally have no problems with minimalism. Most of the time in fact, other people point these "issues" out to me. So, basically my only problem with minimalism are other people.

"Minimalism mistakes"... idk

Honestly, I don't care if I have to wash my socks in the shower. Actually, I sometimes do, because I don't want to wait for the laundry to be full. Yep. Not an issue. I think, if I get to the point some day that this bothers me, that would be a problem.

On the other hand, there were some experiences in my life that were truly ridiculous and did not do anything for me. Not having any tools surely was one of them. Because it just made me dependent on others or on paid services that were much more expensive than DIY & own tools.

But this is just an example. These are my dumb minimalist problems / minimalism mistakes. What are yours?

I've never thought that an empty room takes more energy to heat it than a room of the same size with furniture... But it makes sense now

I would love to hear about your living situation with your husband. I literally had to move into a different apartment from my boyfriend because I couldn't handle the mess and the clutter. It's been life changing, but I don't know how we would ever be able to live cohesively again.

Hi Undine! Beautiful name! Great video. Yes, I am surprised too how much we share, tools etc. with our neighbours, but it took time to build up this community of sharing.

Extreme minimalism is so interesting but I understand the inconveniences. Definitely the right number of items is the number that fits your lifestyle, so if you need the items it's okay to have them. When buying something new I am only veeery careful (comparing prices, comparing local and online stores, comparing different brands) when it comes to technology, like a new computer or cellphone. I'm not sure it's worth everything because it's too time consuming.
By the way, I laughed at the whole love story with the neighbour 🤣
Ps: I'm still on my minimalist journey, so I'm not even considering extreme minimalism yet haha

Really enjoyed your video👍
It's so sad, that we live in a world where borrowing things isn't normal anymore. I will never forget the reaction of a sports mate, when I asked in our group if someone can borrow me a waffle iron. She just send me the link of an discounter, where a waffle iron was on sale.

Very interesting video. The "habit" of regularly borrowing objects and things from a neighbour, a friend, relatives, etc... could be questionable if it is done often : if someone decide to live with a very few things (if it is an actual decision and not a fatality), in a certain way one should have to assume it and not finally pretend to use plenty of things anyway, without willing to assume the fact of owning, taking care and granting a place for those objects in his life; this attitude could be understood as an immature character who wants the experience without the responsibility, and could be seen as a skewing idea of the minimalism. Isn't minimalist mindset the capacity to do without and be ok ? (occasional borrowing or emergency situation is not concerned of course).

I enjoyed the footnotes and the mustache dialog. I like that you embrace your whimsy. I share some of your problems, plus the urge to keep little thrifted knick knacks from the DDR. just because they are cute.

I would love to become an extreme minimalist someday but when u live with a family it becomes really hard especially when your husband is just the opposite and is a hoarder and you see spaces often cluttered which I would have loved if it were open and bare it’s hard we often have conflicts because I have decluttered some of his stuff clearly without his knowledge but I can’t help it I am the one cleaning the house and maintaining our space and clutter gives me anxiety so if he’s not willing to donate or giveaway stuff he hasn’t used in years iam going to do it for him maybe u should make a video on this subject it will help many of us😜

Duplicated clothes and shoes work super well for me. It's more volume but also more simplicity.

I love this video! So relatable! In uni, I lived with a roommate who had ALL cooking gadgets you could think off, and I had a pan. So I had to borrow some of her things, and I felt so ambivalent - on the one hand, I was a minimalist and didn't have shit, and on the other, I had to ask permission to use almost everything. Now I like cooking and have useful stuff for it, but I still don't get some of the useless gadgets, like onion cutter. Use your damn knife!

Disagree about the carpet. Carpets and curtains aren't clutter in my opinion. They Serve a purpose and that is to reduce the echo and make the space more comfortable. To me the echo is the real clutter.
