Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe.. or don't, if you don't feel like it... really. It's up to you. It's a sloth life after all.

Few things you might have missed as well that you need to consider all at once when designing a new skin. I've been involved in studios before so I might have more insight you didn't consider :)
- Skins are designed to limit the amount of geometry clipping. You touched this subject a bit talking about animations but maybe didn't consider clipping based on the characters existing animation skeleton?
- They have to change skins so they feel they fit in the game based on internal decisions and their own style guidelines. I'm sure they have rules to make a skin feel like it fits in the Smite world dictated in their studio Style Guide. You mentioned rounding off wings, in this case, but maybe they did that because they had to change the rest of the skin and it needed to match? i don't know I'm just guessing.
- They have to change things and go in different directions. They might really like a concept but run into legal issues at times? Copyright might also be an issue. If they have a design they might look to see if they can get away with it legally. That's a huge deal.
- The other 2 skins you showed perhaps look too much like other gods and being able to differentiate the gods at a glance is key to gameplay. The snow one almost looked just like Skadi. Silhouettes must remain as unique as possible and if not they look diff enough based on stance/animation differences large enough to notice easily. You might think it's about skimpy but they have sexy and non sexy skins for gods... so I don't think that's a priority (Skadi for instance).
- The number of requirements you have to hit simultaneously for things like I've detailed above have to be hit all at once. A hell of a lot of hands with different rules have to touch a skin before you see it in game.

I believe HiRez is biased when it comes to community skins. They choose the ones they like instead of what community likes. Odyssey S4 bias was so easy to spot. HiRez wanted Ullr skin so they chose recolors vs Ullr's model change skin

At least it doesn't look like a sack of raw meat like the Chronos skin

Meh. I think I already got inmunized to 90% of the godesses dressing like sluts. I get that they weren't even dressed in their original ancient art but...

Athena with heels...

Come one Low-Rez.

Hopefully hi rez becomes faithful to community concepts in the future

I like it, but i agree with you, they shouldn't of made the change, basically they took the COMMUNITY skin and made it theirs.

The feathers had to look metallic and be rigid because animating a character model that maintains a soft appearance while moving would be ridiculously resource intensive. You can't have "soft" and "smooth" with movement without it getting to be a heavy load. They trimmed the feathers, made it rigid so Smite could maintain high FPS, and added a little more skin (which was admittedly gratuitous) and that's it.

I think people forget that Hirez like to stick sort of close(ish) to lore. If for example the skin that won made Suku some weird centipede it just would not work regardless of how amazing the skin was. I remember when people got super offended by how Kali was presented in smite with regards to her clothes and stuff. I think it's a great skin and we should appreciate the fact that Hirez even allow these votes and community skins to happen. Side Note: If you don't like the skin, you don't have to but it

Well to be honest I think they reduced the feathers as it would have made the model heavy ( file size increases) + due to increase in the face count while animation it might cause fps drop on low end system's they also had to consider that. They did change it alot but they have to think about the game 1st than the concept art/deaihn if it's gonna be to heavy to implement in the game settings they had to do the modifications accordingly

I like Hirez design alot more. The original looks not interesting to me. The whole fairy stuff is not to my taste and hirez design wins in almost every aspect for me.

But i admit that Suku looked better and more interesting in the community concept.
