My cousin got a leg blown off in Afghanistan by an IED. Doesn't talk about it much but he was in a Humvee I think he called it when it happened. Comes to Halloween parties as a peg leg pirate, good dude.

When I was an active duty Marine I met a CWO who apparently was on a convoy where insurgents literally shoved explosives up a goat’s rear but didn’t anticipate the goat itself insulating the explosion.

It was less deadly and more distressing bc tf did the goat do to anyone? He was chillin!

Its hard to believe that the US and Vietnam were once enemies but now they have a good bond.

The correct name for a sea vessel that lays mines in the ocean is called a mine layer not a mine sweeper

MINESWEEPERS DO NOT LAY MINES, they REMOVE THEM, Hence 'SWEEPER'. It is MINELAYERS who lay mines. And crossbows launch bolts, not arrows.

My dad was A Vietnam era USMC Combat Engineer.
Even he will tell you, the Viet Cong Sappers, were the finest this world has ever seen.
Smart, brutal, and very effective.

Vietnamese here. We usually coat the spikes with excrement or decomposing trash. Local herbs were mostly medicinal so poisoning the spikes weren't exactly easy.

I believe "mine sweepers" removed mines. "mine layers" placed them.

In the Marines we specifically train on how to clear a dead body to ensure it was not rigged with explosives.

How do these toe poppers work? I was under the impression that bullets need to be struck fairly quickly in order to fire. Steping onto one of them seems like a rather slow impact compared to a gun's hammer striking it. Can someone more knowlegeable please elaborate?

There's another type of semi-deadly landmine left behind by the homeowner's animals and farm animals. My uncle told us not to worry about the bull in the field because the landmines would get us. It kept us out of the field and getting hurt by the bull that's for sure.
