Highly Recommended* 'Head First Programming' Humble Bundle

Показать описание
There is a new Humble of interest to game developers, the Head First Programming by O'Reilly. A collection of mostly beginner programming language oriented books.

* The recommendation is for beginners, these are not advanced books, but make hard subjects very approachable. This was at least the case when I learned Java ages ago with a Head First book.

I don't often comment but wanted to say thanks for the news. I get all these from you here or on Twitter, and could get a copy of those books. They're great not only for learning, but also to see how they teach; it's a really cool method!

"Head First Learn to Code" seems like a great book to give to someone you're teaching a specific programming language, since - from what I've seen - the difficulty of learning the thought process through an unfamiliar syntax seems like the main reason for people to give up on programming as a whole.

Nothing dates those books more than their unapologetic 00's-style covers lol

I got this bundle back in 2018. Absolutely recommended, it also includes Go and Kotlin for those who are interested

This is nice, but mostly outdated books. For example the Java book handles version 5 of Java which is more than 16 years old (version 5 was introduced in Sept. 2004) !
The current version of Java is JDK 16 and there are a lot of changes since 2004, so this book has a very limited value.

"Head First Design Patterns" is a very good one.

I think it's worth mentioning that these aren't the newest editions of these books. The C# one, for example, is 2 editions out of date. I'm not sure how much that changes things or whether the changes between the versions are important enough to make the older version obsolete, but it's something to keep in mind.

Nice review! I miss a couple of things, though. One, pointing out which titles are repeats from past bundles (only a couple of additions on Tier 3) and two, mentioning the "slidersgate" issue (statement at 00:58 is no longer true).

Other people have already pointed that some of this books are old (and probably outdated). It's something that happens a lot with book bundles but also with software bundles. They don't offer the last version available but the previous one (i.e SnagIt 2020 when 2021 has already been released), of course it's still a good chance to buy good software for cheap but still a bit misleading (plus I feel the publishers hope that you'll buy the license upgrade to the newest version -which can be expensive-).

You can always wait for next year, Humble will most likely repeat the bundle with SnagIt 2021 (with 2022 being the latest version) 😛

Ooh, I already own the Head First C# book, and I can definitely recommend it! Brackeys' tutorials are certainly great, but being able to level up to truly complex concepts is seriously handy.

I've had to turn youtube notifications off because I have subbed too many channels. I almost missed this. Thank you!

No Rust; that's really the language I've been waiting for one of these bundles to touch on.

Head first uses too much visuals, you end up not concentrating, half of the book is just pictures. People have to know this. For people who like C++ i recommend Stephen Prata, when you read him you feel very calm and concentrated, c++ just flows in to your mind, im not joking ! Bjarne Stroustrup, the creator of c++ cannot teach like him, not even close. What i mean is, who knows how to teach people, he dosent need pictures to do it..

I think I might need to get the c# tier to help with unity!

Most of them are outdate. The C programming is worth and the java is nice.
