Python is a pleasure to work with. Its a great language for new programmers to start with, as you can become productive relatively quickly. It was my first language, and it is still my go to if I am creating some quick and dirty application for personal use.

Our team believes that Python is a quite nice first language for a start! It's a high-level, general-purpose programming language that is easy to learn and understand. It seems to do great work due to its simplicity, versatility, and large community.

I normally use C#, but as a lot of stuff now is in the web I also needed to use JS. JS looks for me like a mixture of several ideas added to one language. More for curiosity I looked at Python, as some of my customers are using this. In my assumption a good language to start as you aren't forced to use OOP always like in C# and you may run code like a script which helps to understand the syntax. But if you want to write an app with some functionality you will naturally face the same issues as in every programming language.

Look guys I am not a programmer but I am ~40 years old..First you learn how to drive a car and after you go for a truck..first you walk and after run.I can give you 1M examples..programming it's not different..Find the most easy language and then go to more difficult.Thats the law of life.

My seven year old son recently started typing in BASIC programs from books on my C64, but also tries to program his own very simple basic programs (variations or elaborations in hello world mostly). A developer friend recommended python yesterday as a matter of fact, but I like the fact that he's coding on a very simple machine that's not connected to the internet, so I don't have to worry about him discovering not so nice stuff online.

Do you think BASIC is fine for now (until he gets his own computer in a few years) or would you say setting up a non internet connected computer and installing Python on it is a better start for a young kid?

Stef, I'd have to disagree - python IMO is not good for first language... while resembling plain english it has a lot of going on which is not visible for a beginner and easily can get out of control. Also I believe it is a lot easier for a non-pythonist to transit into python rather than being a python dev (with only python knowledge) transiting into any other language...

IMO - nodejs/js/php are great languages to start with which will lay the foundations to understand partially any C-like language

I do like python but like he said in previous videos if you trying to get a job fast stay away from python and go in the the webstack

Python is a great language, I love it - it's no-nonsense and 'simple', but if you're looking to get into the industry I'm leaning towards JS imo.

Where I live there are VERY few entry-level Python jobs (mid-level, lots of jobs) and many-many entry-level JS jobs. That's what I found from my experience from learning Python first, then discovering it's going to be REALLY tough to get a job and then switching to JS.

That said, knowing Python did give me a very good foundation, so I was able to pick up JS quicker.

Should I learn python before Javascrip? I'm currently working through your css online class right now.

What about PHP as a first programming language?

The argument against python is that Python's flexibility and lack of strict syntax rules can lead to confusion and bad habits for beginners who don't have a solid understanding of programming concepts. Going with Java, C++, C# etc will force / help you better comprehend fundamental programming concepts

Lua is also a great first programming language.

Stefan, What do you think about Elixir? Is it worthy to jump into functional programming in 2023?

Don’t forget about C/C++ for pointers and memory management after Python
