I’m guessing most will be available made to order later down the line. For a limited time though and at a higher price.

Glad Auspex pointed out that bit about Gabriel Seth's fluff. I thought it was funny and ironic when Gabriel Seth was railing against Firstborn Marines being replaced by Primaris at time when GW was trying to say that that totally wasn't, happening in real life despite space marine armies becoming 90% Primaris. And now he's getting (at least temporarily) axed from the range alongside a whole bunch of other firstborn... :P

It's like the McRib... it isn't that great, but when they take it away and bring it back later, it's all people will talk about while they are back, driving up sales for it.

A few of these are original 2e sculpts. I'm sympathetic to folks who are upset by this, but 90% chance this is "We haven't made more of these in 8-10 years and still have stock on hand, the molds are broken, just write off what we have and we can do new sculpts in the future."

Perhaps Artemis is preparing for his Primaris upgrade. It would be very odd for GW to get rid of a famous Inquisitor (boardgame) and then Deathwatch character.

Honestly, this feels dumb to me. One of my favorite things from 40k, YEARS ago (2004?) was their Bitz Barn, where you could go onto their site, and buy bits you needed to costum your stuff. You needed Necron gauss tubes? Buy them up. The camo cloaks to make snipers? Yep. It was great, as you didn't have to buy whole other boxes for single pieces of one sprue...and then of course, they stopped. This feels the same. In this world of 3D printing, niche hobbies, and fluctuating support bases, GW almost should just have a little division like full time "make to order". People aren't buying up your Space Marines characters? Fine, then don't make them, but have some person take orders, crank one out, as requested, charge a bit more, and mail it out. I remember when 3e D&D groaned under the weight of countless printings of copious, dubious splat books, and am really glad 5e doesn't do the same, but GW could do similar. They could take little orders, and not print more than they need. No hook in a store is filled with 2 packs of Rough Riders nobody wanted, and more isn't getting ordered because space is still full, and GW can still make money off the occasional purchase, without bogging anything else down. It would be painlessly easy, and it's a shame they won't do it.

I get removing the resin models, particularly the older ones (some of which I'm surprised were still getting sold, ) but removing the plastic characters seems odd.

I'm also surprised that the plastic Sanguinary Priest was never branded as Brother Corbulo; he has the exact same gear after all.

So it begins... the Firstborn are going the way of the Thunder Warriors... Abaddon was right!

I feel like people can kitbash most of these with similar looking kits, which doesnt solve the problem but still its another option

So glad I've at least one metal copy for each of the characters listed here but the Space Furries. So sad that GW didn't had the balls to release True-scale marines instead of the Primaris Bullshit and in a couple of editions my fully-painted 20k points of SM collected through 25 years will be just very expensive painted plastic and metal...

I don't mind getting new sculpts but it would be nice if they did some firstborn units as new sculpts.

I don't understand why they would get rif of Artemis and the Blood Angels terminator captain. Those are still two perfectly good kits.

The ones like Corbulo and Tycho I understand completely, despite being a Blood Angels fan boy. Those sculpts have been around since 2E, if people haven't brought them by now... it kind of highlights the point why their being rotated out. A lot of these could do with an overhaul. Plus I think a lot of this has to do with the fan base. When Primaris first came out, people were screaming and demanding first born get a size upgrade to not be so small in comparison. The only way to do that is to overhaul old models.

Back in 8th they released about one miniature per codex supplement for each founding chapter. It's possible these are being removed to be replaced by primaris counterparts, like for example when the 9th ed ultramarines supplement comes out we get a Primaris telion or something which Id love for these to get new sculpts over time. Personally I would really like to see a Primaris Pedro Kantor

Also consider them giving a reason before they raising the price this last week, so this may be another symptom of them trying to tighten up their ship, so they can maintain the profit report.

sounds like they may be retooling their molds. fingers crossed for better resin casts without the stupid imitation sprue rectangles surrounding the mini. and hopefully less casting gates overall

I don’t think they’re going to cut off all the firstborn yet. There’s still plenty of kit that’s not directly replaceable in the primaris range.

I do suspect however that these characters are gone for good. They reserved the right to bring them back if they want but I suspect the ones who will come back will be primaris-ified first like Helbrecht and Grimaldus.

I just started collecting some deathwatch, and while I have the watch master I’m probably going to skip Artemis now because I guarantee he’ll be back as a primaris whenever they get some sort of reboot in the next several years. Even if they just reboot a few hero minis not a whole chapter
