While the Viking/Norse age began in 793, that did not mean that the Norse did not exist until that time. The Norse culture existed many centuries prior to that date and went on many raids across the seas. The raid of 793 is what put the Norse culture on the worlds radar. What's funny is that everyone demonized the Norse, but at the time, everyone was raiding and attacking everyone else's neighboring countries. The Norse were simply better at it.

Also, yes, recent discoveries have shown that the Norse took their hygiene very seriously and bathed as often as the could. They also cared a lot about maintaining the health of their hair since lice was a problem.

If you are interested Wayne, if you visit Stockholm, you should visit our The Viking Museum. They have a restaurant with true nordic flavour, and you can also book a special drink tasting, where you have the chance to taste the famous "Mjöd" and other type of drinks they had back in their life. And of course learn a lot about the Vikings rich history 😊

Cool, my mom's family immigrated from Leeds 200 years ago. Their family name ends in "thwaite".

That map at 3:10 is a bit misleading, since all of it is coloured red. Basically the red area in England = Danish, and the rest = Norwegian.

Yeah horns is a myth. So is it that they were "filthy barbarians". As you probably know the majority of the days of the week, Tuesday-Friday are from Scandinavia. In Sweden we call Saturday, "Lördag". Which is short for Lögardagen, löga is to wash. Meaning Saturday were a washing day/bathing day. So they were washing at least once a week.

The main thing people think about vikings are tall and muscular dudes with long hair/beards. Far from everyone was like that. Take your average farmer and put a chainmail on him and give him an axe and a shield and a helmet. Then imagine he was devoted to Norse mythology where they were praised to die in combat. So a guy with all that weapons and armor with a devotion to give his life rushing at the enemy. Plus to get access to fertile lands. That's basically what the vikings where

Look, worm infestations are not only viking related. The Romans had it too. It was hygiene related. Bathing in public bath houses and using public lavatories.

The yellow was the Jutes, the other two was Angles and Saxons! That become the Anglo-Saxons! There was some Frisians too!
Dont mix Anglo-Saxons with Danelaw becuse it was later and Danes fought the early concquers for there land!
The Norweigians concqured parts of scottland and Irland!
At first, there was no vikings, (its a modern word) there was no norse nations eighter, only local chieftans, that traded and/or raided!
And yes they spoke kind of the same language, old norse or some other present it as platduetsch (low german)!
Its is this that make English a Germanic language. And it was our viking ancestors that concured Normandy that brought in that fancy French spelling and words, blame everyting on Villiam the concquer for that!
