10-Year-Old Autistic Boy Rescued From Water by Cop

A 10-year-old boy was pulled from underwater by a Miami cop. Officer Fernandez says the boy had difficulty breathing when he first pulled him out of the river. According to the National Autism Association, “Drowning is among the leading causes of death of individuals with autism.” The little boy has been reunited with his very appreciative family. Officer Fernandez believes following his instincts may have helped him save a life.

I have to admit that I'm thankful my parents taught me how to swim since I'm also autistic.
Water can be a calming thing and a fun way to cool off but don't forget that no kid is too young to learn how to swim. And I also say this as someone who works as a teacher's aid.

And parents of autistic kids, you got this! Everyone just learns differently

My son is autistic and this is one of my worst fears. He never leaves our side thankfully and he loves the water he says “pool, I swim!” When he sees a pool. He knows not to get in unless I’m with him but I still never trust that because i just can’t.

I am just balling watching this. My sons 3 and just got his diagnosis this summer. We always knew and it will never change how much we love our boy. When he mentioned the kisses, my heart just broke apart. Thats exactly how my son expresses his gratitude when you do something that makes hIs world feel right again. For it to happen between child and care taker is sweet and loving but between him and a stranger, now thats special. Officer Fernandez you have a sweet soul, I hope you live a long healthy life and those of us with Autistic kids praise and Thank you for saving his life. 💙💜
