How and WHY Did Voldemort and Bellatrix Have a Child? - Harry Potter Theory

Welcome to Harry Potter Theory. Today we're discussing Voldemort, Bellatrix, unusual family dynamics, and their daughter. That’s right! You heard me- their daughter. For those unaware, in the Cursed Child (which was written for a POST Harry Potter world)- it’s revealed that at one point in time, Bellatrix and Voldemort conceived a child of their own- Delphini. What’s interesting about this, however, is that this would have actually happened during the original Harry Potter story- before Bellatrix suffers her fate at the hands of Molly Weasley’s spell.

In today’s video, I want to break all of this down, explaining HOW it happened, WHY it happened, and WHEN it happened. So sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Now, before we get started- I KNOW- The Cursed Child ISN’T POPULAR. It’s marketed as the eighth story- a continuation following the children of the characters that we grew up with. The events of the Cursed Child occur 19 years after the events of the Deathly Hallows, and follows Harry Potter- who is now head of the department of magical law enforcement at the ministry of magic, and his younger son, Albus Potter, who’s just about to embark on his own journey at Hogwarts. But, rather than being made in to a film adaptation, the Cursed Child was made in to a two part play - rather than a feature film. The play primarily comes under scrutiny from Harry Potter fans because of its apparent disregard for the traditional Harry Potter canon.

Though Rowling has affirmed that the play should be accepted as part of the canon- most fans aren’t having any of this. This is for a couple of reasons, first of all-the storyline truly upsets our perceptions of the traditional Harry Potter universe. The notion that Voldemort could have a child when he was born entirely devoid of certain emotions, is just one example of something The Cursed Child did that didn’t sit well with fans. The next big issue for most fans is that Rowling didn’t write the play all on her own- and because other people had influence on how the play and story would turn out, it seems to be the general consensus among fans that it can’t truly be canon. On the front cover, it very clearly reads:

Based on an original new story by

J.K. Rowling

John Tiffany & Jack Thorne

But, just for a moment- let’s entertain the version of ‘canon’ introduced by the Cursed Child- and the absurd notion that Voldemort- devoid of emotion and social graces, could POSSIBLY conceive a child with his right-hand-woman and resident wizarding world LUNATIC- Bellatrix Lestrange.

Voldemort wouldn’t have thought about his daughter’s safety in the event of her parents deaths because he never would’ve considered himself ever dying

Picturing voldemort taking Bellatrix to pound town isn't what I wanted to picture in my mind tonight... so thanks for that.

Maybe Bellatrix just said "Accio sperm" while Voldemort was sleeping. [grin]

But the idea that Cedric could become a death eater breaks his character unforgivably. That's the # one, possibly the only unshakeable, reason it will never be canon to me.

Tom and Bellatrix having a child gives me strong Rey Palpatine vibes

There's a couple reasons for how/why. Delphi's conception took place likely shortly after Dumledore's death, possibly why the two of them were "celebrating". To Bellatrix, having Voldemort's child would be the greatest of honors. Voldemort likely gave her a child as a reward for her services, and/or he saw the benefits of having a child, as both a loyal and powerful servant and as an alternate means of a kind of immortality, where even if he was somehow killed, his bloodline would live on through her.

Something tells me had Voldemort won, he may have eventually killed Delphini once he believed his position and power was secure since she would be the only threat left to his rule as his supposed heir.

Delphi was supposedly born in Malfoy Manor which means Draco would have known about her. But he doesn't know anything about her existence in Cursed Child. Plus why wouldn't Narcissa & Lucius be given custody of her when Bellatrix died? That NEVER made sense to me.

Psychopaths can breed. Love isn't required for the act of conceiving a child. I just question whether or not Riddle was capable of it since his body wasn't exactly intact. And why would he plan for Delphini's care "in the event of his death"? He planned to live forever; that's sort of the basis of the whole freaking saga. He never factored death into his legend and therefore would have no reason to create an heir and no reason to provide for her after he was gone. JKR only pronounced this canon because she stood to either make another fortune or to infuriate most of the fandom. She chose the latter. It's nothing but fan fiction, written by a couple of muggles who wouldn't know the Wizarding World if they stumbled into Hogsmeade.

The idea that Delphi would “inherit” evil qualities from her parents belies the message of the entire HP series.

I was fine with Delphini, plenty of evil men have had children before and the idea of him having one just to have a backup plan did not surprise me in the slightest. My problem with the cursed child was more on other characters' personalities and reactions, like Cedric becoming a Death Eater because he got humiliated, he struck me as the type that would not care about that.

Cedric's journey down the dark path is the 4th unforgivable curse. So unforgivable, in fact, the only people who have ever used it are the writers of Cursed Child, people who say it's canon, and people who say it's their favorite book.

I'm just not on board with Voldy wanting to "preserve his lineage". He is a halfblood, what makes his child also unpure. All he thought about was only himself: he wanted to be immortal, nothing more and nothing less. It just doesn't make sense to me.
