Aikman was fearless. He would stand in the pocket, waiting for the reciever to break free, knowing that the big shot was coming, and still delivering the ball with pinpoint accuracy.

Well, I am certainly a Philadelphia Eagles fan for life. There are some players from other teams that I did have some respect for.
Troy Aikman is one of those players, because he always expressed himself as a compassionate and thoughtful human being towards other players even if they were on opposing teams, he always expressed his adoration and respect for the talents and abilities of other players
And frankly, as a sports commentator for the national football league, he is without question one of the very best commentators for professional football knows the game knows what the plays are and AND has respect for whoever is in the driver seat, whether the NFC or AFC, and will call out even his own former Cowboys Team, if they are not performing the way that they really should and speaks truth to power even to Jerry Jones when it comes to speaking the truth about how poorly that team has been managed through the years, he’s a real class act
Is someone that I truly respect? . 🏈🏈🏈🏈

Troy was one tough man! I remember reading an article that was in US Today during his career that had a picture that casted the outline of his full body with a skeleton being the base that showed his bone system and the muscles over them. It listed and pointed to every injury or reinjury he had suffered that particular season. I couldn't believe how many injuries and how one man could do anything with that many serious injuries, let alone play quarterback in the NFL.
He almost bit his tongue in half! He continued to play every week. He was a warrior.

I was at that Cardinal Game. Everyone heard that hit in the stands. Just brutal. Nunn right up the middle as Troy threw what should have been the game winning TD pass. (Blown coverage by Walls on the next Cardinal series lost the game.)

I remember seeing Walls Laughing with the Az players after the game. I was royally pissed as I left the stadium. His QB is out cold and on the way to the hospital, he blew the game and he's acting like it was no big deal. I was happy Jimmy cut him the next day. Sent a message.

Thanks for putting it on the line for us, Troy. Back then, toughness was measured by how fast you get back in the game, which was horrific. Guys literally got knocked out cold and came back in the game. DBs would bet on who would "put a guy to sleep" in a game. God only knows how much damage you and others have actually sustained.

I was just reading an old article from a week before the Super Bowl in 1994, they pointed out that they took him to the hospital before the game was over as his mental faculties began to rapidly break down, and it took until sometime the next day before he started forming new memories, up until then he'd wake up and have to be told what was going on and then he'd doze off, wake up and forget it all over again. At times he'd try to leave the hospital because he wouldn't understand why he was there, at one point he didn't know he was a pro QB and thought he was in the hospital following a *high school game*, thinking he was still a HS kid, and sometimes he would wake up and didn't recognize coaches or the names of people he knew. And we know all of this from the people who were with him in the hospital, he doesn't remember anything until the end of his stay in the hospital.

Geez. I remember both of the hits he's talking about. This is the first I've ever heard about the blood still coming out of his ears a week after the first one. That's frightening.

What makes Troy even tougher is the fact that he was never supposed to be able to walk, period. He was born with clubfoot on both feet and it took a year and a half of surgeries, braces and corrective casts to re-shape his feet so that he could put weight on them. Iirc he couldn’t walk until he was almost 4 years old.

Troy...one of the best to ever do it. Accurate with his throws, knew how to read defenses, and just one tough son a gun. You set the bar high for everyone who comes after you wearing the star. Salute, my guy.

The good old days when men were men and football was brutal

I'm honestly surprised not only that he lasted as long as he did as a player, and has since lasted this long as an announcer. Those concussions were bad, and he had a lot more "less severe", which, I mean, by my count, he had nine as a player that we knew of at the time and some of those other ones were still brutal, on top of just playing in the NFC East during that time, with all those top-tier defenses at the time. I was honestly stunned he got a job as an announcer, I thought he had so many headshots that he was gonna be this mumbling lumbering oaf of a commentator and he would be out of football within a few years afterwards. The fact that, you know, after football, he has found a way to keep his sharp and actually has become a great announcer, is really underrated. Like, he might have been the last QB at that time that I would've thought would translate well to the commentator job after retiring, mainly because of all those concussions and head injuries but I'll be damned.

I remember a commercial on some thing that showed him getting knocked crazy. And his eyes rolling round. Stunning. Tough young man.
