Welcome to "Neurodiverse Friends" with Pixi & co.! Today, we explore how food sensitivity connects to ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). For some neurodivergent individuals, crunchy, grainy, chewy, or fibrous food experiences can feel overwhelming. We’ll delve into this topic with humor and relatable situations. I hope you enjoy the episode!

Not only is it accurate depictions of mental conditions
It's also an accurate depiction of trying to eat a cheez bungr

A thing i love about your animations is that it always ends with the characters happy.
There is no grudge, no arguement, no plot point that can carry onto the next episode.
Its just neurodivergent cats learning to adapt to eachothers quirks and enjoying their lives.
and i love it

0:31 I love the detail that she left the tomato, lettuce, and meat behind. Sometimes you only want some parts of a thing rather than the whole thing.

i have adhd and arfid, and i think i might have teared up a little, especially at the end where adhd pulled out two carrots they could eat together 😭😭

I hate how accurate the ADHD is! I have episodes where I feel constantly hungry and so I constantly just snack because I am too lazy to make anything. Then I have episodes where I just starve myself because I don’t feel like eating

I love this representing both ADHD's dopamine seeking through food and autism's arfid! Tip for anyone with ADHD like me: have a fridge and pantry full of "snacks"! Babybel cheese, seed crackers, dried fruit, protein bars, fruit cocktail cans - whatever floats your boat for snacks. Then make a meal of them! Still healthy, still fast and easy, and you get your dopamine hit. You can also change the composition of the meal based on what you feel like eating. You can also set alarms to remember to eat! If three meals a day is hard, try four, five or even six smaller ones. Food should serve you, not the other way around.

I LOVE how you showed autism’s discomfort!! Turning red and flapping her hands was such a great way to show it and also very well animated!

As someone with ADHD, this hits differently, I eat A LOT just so i can feel full, but it's never fully satiated so i end up eating more than my body can handle.

its always great having it labelled "picky eating" :[
also intentionally or not i like you showing the autistic eating slowly. i eat very slowly or else i get sick but i always had (and still do well into my 20s) my mom just yell "EAT" at me in a restaurant or at the table or wherever :/

As another commentator pointed out, I love how every animation ends with the characters happy. No grudge, argument, downer ending or comically bad one where the joke is laughing at the characters' misfortune, just wholesome fun

I'm an autistic woman and I can definitely relate how the ASD cat sticks to one food and has trouble with other food textures. I don't like the texture of crunchy onions and chewy Butterfinger bars, but I love eating carrots, potatoes, strawberries, and chocolate peanut butter cups.
Thank you so much Pixi, for making these shorts. The time and effort you give to bring us entertaining and informative shorts about neurodivergence in an open and accepting way. We need more people like you. Thank you!

Thank you for the positive representation of this sensory/eating disorder. I've seen people get REALLY mad at the fact that some people are "picky" and don't eat everything. They see it as a personal insult as if you pissed on their mom's grave. Seen it being labeled as stupid, childish, entitled, and that we're abusers who want to "control" others through food or something.

i like how i can see myself from the 2 characters here
sometimes i just eat a small snack and ill be satisfied, and other times i may just accidentally eat a whole royal dinner

This actually made me really happy as someone with ARFID.
Going through a real bad bout of it where I'm really only willing to eat 3 things right now. Everything else tastes too different, smells too different, feels too different, or all of the above. I've always felt ashamed for being so picky, especially with no one even bothering to try and understand my processing and just berating me or pushing me to eat everything. Seeing Pixi be so willing to adapt to Aspy's needs made me feel a lot more normal and accepted :)
