These can all be signs of ADHD, too, but just with different motivations behind the behaviors.

I've learned how to fake making eye contact with people by looking over their shoulder. Another symptom is face blindness. I have that one too

I smile and have an overly polite tone bc i cannot look people in the eye. I also despise people i dont know being to close to me makes my skin crawl

My childhood and young adulthood would have been SO MUCH easier if I got properly diagnosed as a kid. ..but it was the 90s, so they just said I had BPD, gave me a ton of drugs, and sent me to a home for "troubled teens".

It’s a no-brainer why so many of us get diagnosed later in life. I functioning autism, wasn’t understood when we were kids. The only autistic kids when we were little were the nonverbal ones who would stare at the floor. The rest of us were just the weird kid in school.

I masked eye contact for over 30 years to be polite and didn't even realize I was doing it. I was also diagnosed adhd but as all 4 of my kids went through school and were also diagnosed adhd I started suspecting something more. Turns out all 4 of my kids and myself are autistic. We just found out this year, after my oldest (24) was diagnosed in college her 2 youngest brothers got their diagnosis in HS

Feel that...Sometimes I get triggered so bad by people I have to hide for a couple days in my apartment. I definitely struggle with being around too many people or people I don't know...
Much love for this video.

What bothers me is I've been told there is no way I'm autistic because I can make eye contact and read others emotions. But when making eye contact I need to either really trust and like the person or hold for what seems appropriate and the look away before restarting the process. I read emotions because that's how I know if people are bothered and because I measure my reactions to theirs. I actually like physical affection from people I know. If I don't know you do not freaking touch me, it's gonna cause a panic attack. I know I'm adhd, verdicts still out on autism. All that being said I'm late diagnosed and my parents didn't believe I was adhd because I don't fidget like my kids. Never mind the fact I skin pick, chew my nails to the quick, and struggled with relationship impulsivity as a young adult. I get I'm high functioning, and all I've ever known was masking, but why is it so darn hard to get actual support?

Finally, at 80 years of age, a diagnosis of ASD, unspecified ADD. Learning about myself as a neurodivergent person.

What about the almost constant lip moving as if you're talking to yourself? My adult daughter does this a lot. She doesn't acknowledge that she is autistic, but as a mom, I notice the behaviors, the lack of social cues, the struggle to make the "right type" of friends (the ones who don't have good intentions toward her). When she makes eye contact, it's like she's staring at you. I'm used to her different quirks, but other people are not, so they sometimes find it off putting. She may be an adult, but I would hurt someone over my baby girl.😔

As an undiagnosed autist, my lovely son also on the spectrum helped me realize why I’ve always felt the way I do ❤
Different, not less

I think recording myself looking straight into the camera is what helped me a lot with the eye contact. It helped me to see what others see when I talk to them, and after doing a few takes I was able to correct some awkward things I was doing 😂

Like, seriously, no one will see the video unless you share it. Try it out and do it a few times until you don’t cringe anymore at yourself. 😅
