BMW vs Audi Reliability

It's time to look at BMW reliability and Audi reliability and pit the two carmakers versus each other. Who wins this battle of the German carmakers?

This video talks at a high level and gives you a very clear answer on #BMW vs #Audi when it comes to #reliability. Audi's tend to have a higher cost of ownership just after the 6-year mark. After 10 years, BMW and Audi become relatively similar in terms of the cost of ownership.

I've had 3 audis, A3 no problems, A5 B&O amplifier blew up, nothing else. S4 actually no problems aside from some rattling from leather seat and aftermarket suspension issue. Audis have been quite good to me. *Fingers crossed*

I feel that Audi and BMW have cars that are reliable. They also have cars that are more unreliable. I believe if you take care of a car they will last you a long time but once something goes bad, they have similar prices if you take them to the dealer. If your cheap don’t bother to buy a foreign car because I don’t wanna hear about it’s reliability.

My son has owned 3 Audi’s with no problems, we have had 3 BMW”s all had problems with sensors, engine smoking on a 3 series and lights on the dash that shouldn’t come on.So I guess I prefer Audi’s. I had a Mercedes SL500 that needed two replacement distributor caps on the V8 -parts and labour $1500.00 NZDollars -ouch!

Having a current M3 and a previous S4 I can’t imagine the M3 is going to hold up as well. The S4 was reliable and solid as a vault at 100k. The M3 at 27k feels like a car that has been in a bad accident and rebuilt poorly

Depends on the model and miles and how someone is taking care of the car. Every car model has some most common problems. Also keep in mind cars that used to cost 70k we buying them for half of that now or way less, no car payments. But maintenance hit us. Ones the warranty expires people getting rid of them. And that's for all German cars as they know the maintenance is expensive. So you may have issues or the car may run well. I have 07 Audi RS4 now, I used to have E46 m3. 2 different cars. Let's not talk about engine failures on some of the BMW models. :) Plus you own a BMW of course you gonna say bad things about Audi and that's fine.

Why keep showing yourself FAKE TYPING on the laptop? You don't need that stupid crap. It lessens the quality and the effect of the video. Simply put, it doesn't work.

BMW's are good car's... They are really tough because some people even ignore servicing them but they still moves.

Absolutely love how everyone seems to neglect the fact that you can buy the exact same part from vw for a fraction of the cost (for most parts)

1. Don't go to the dealer out of warranty.
2. A good mechanic will delay or advance replacing things to cut hourly service charges.
3. A more complex car has more to break period.

I see many people saying "wow, I'm glad I had warranty, that part was $5k". Yes, but if you didn't take it to the stealership, they would have replaced the $5 gasket instead of replacing the entire part. This is why getting information from those who visit the dealerships is a bad idea because you don't know what truly broke. My indie mechanic will tell me what goes on a used car I wish to purchase and will set up early/or preventative maintenance to avoid the issue if possible or reduce costs. Dealerships won't.

Lexus in comparison are bullet proof machanically and where they really embarrass Audi and B M W is with their electronics which are consistently superior.

I have a theory on why folks think BMW (german or performance cars are less reliable than Japanese cars)

These cars are made for spirited driving - as such, physical forces damage the parts more due to excessive power and handling stresses. After all, metal is metal whether it's Japanese or German. The only difference is that a Camry is driven mostly sedately vs. a BMW is driven like it is the ultimate driving machine. Both the driver habits and the engine power specifications have the deciding factor in wear and tear. If you drove a BMW like a Camry, I think it would last just as long...there is no magic in one car vs. the other.

So when folks compare and criticize German performance cars vs. Japanese cars reliability...they do not compare apples to apples. They are two different types of cars with different abuse factors. Even if you are an MMA heavy weight, you fight, you get hurt...that's just a fact of life...even if you are genetically made for fighting and you train. You will get damaged. Now if you are an MMA heavy weight and you fight only kids... you will last much longer since you do not expend as much energy and do not get as much damage if any.

As for cost of parts... there are some parts on a BMW that can be expensive but often times, I find BMW parts to be cheaper than a Nissan, Mazda, Toyota part... so that argument is not really valid.

If you buy a BMW and drive it like it was designed...very aggressively, it can do that. Just understand that the wear factors will be much sooner than if you bought a corolla and drove it sedately. Why on Earth do you think corrollas last for decades with no issues? It only has 130hp and you cannot race it. If you do, watch it fall apart in a few months or weeks. I guarantee it.

Good to hear, my 2013 X5 is turning 6 years old this year. I bought it July 2018 with 96, 000 miles on it With an extended warranty 48 months/60k miles, bumper to bumper, $0 deductible, labor is covered up to $90/hr. Made my first claim last week, changing front end control arms on both sides. About a 3 hour job. Warranty is a must for a BMW, I wouldn’t buy this X5 without one !

Consumer report stated that Audi is more reliable than BMW plus BMW cost more when time for repairs. BMW is more fun to drive than Audi on dry road.

I have had 2 Audis and 1 bmw and I think the Audis were way more reliable. That said they are all maintenance hogs. I have had 3 infinitis and they were all leaps and bounds more reliable than the mercedes, audis or bmws I have owned. Not as fun to drive though!

In my opinion both brands are very very similar.
The Audi a4 has a much nicer interieur than the 3 series.
But the 3 series is better to drive.
It is your choice.

But to say one brand is more reliable. I don't think that it is so easy to say.

Especially the plastic use in the engine department from BMW is extremely high.

I don’t know. I have a 13 Audi A5, my first Audi and in 2 years of ownership it’s been very reliable. It’s had 2 recalls which have been taken care of and the front control arm bushing, and fuel door mechanism which kept sticking replaced under warranty. I feel like the components such as the engine are more robust as they are shared with a variety of VW/Audi products. My 2.0t is the same as the GTi. My sister has had 3 GTis with no major issues over the last 10 years. Time will tell. So far Audi ownership hasn’t been as costly as my previous BMW however I’ve owned a 325ci and 328 e92 which were bullet proof.
