Analysis: Why has Russia targeted Kyiv now?

Air Vice-Marshal Sean Bell analyses how Russia's missile strike on Kyiv may be in retaliation for the sinking of the cruiser Moskva.

He cast doubt on the Russian suggestion that a fire onboard had caused the vessel to sink, noting that Russian ships nearby in the Black Sea had altered their courses further south of Ukraine.

The Russian Cruiser Moskva has successfully completed surface trials of a special military operation and is now conducting underwater maneuvers with its full crew still aboard as it undergoes reclassification as a new type of submarine commissioned for permanent underwater missions.

The praises of its success are unrelenting:

“What an advanced ship. Half cruiser half submarine!”

“Genius design to be able to operate underwater permanently!”

“The Moskva heroically destroyed a pair of Ukrainian Neptune air to sea missiles with its hull and has been promoted to a full time stationary submarine that never requires refueling or resurfacing. Brilliant!”

Meanwhile, the only flagship vessel in history to be sunk by an enemy with no navy. Bless the Russian military for continuing to rise to the uniquest of wartime achievements.

In War games it was known that in choppy sea's with the ship rolling the 3 Russian missile defense rings couldn't set the radar low enough to detect the sea skimming Neptune - This just left the radar directed close quarter gattling gun defenses which was distracted by a drone - epic tactics - Russia outsmarted again

As a Navy veteran, I can wholeheartedly verify that EVERY sailor is trained as a fire-fighter. As for Russia, this actually strikes me as very significant because, by sticking to their claim that the Moskva sinking was an 'accident' yet targeting Kyiv in 'retribution, ' they're essentially publicly acknowledging for the first time that everyone knows they're LYING. Slava Ukraini!
