Talk's Julia Hartley-Brewer is joined by criminal defence lawyer and director of Mary Monson Solicitors, Liam Kotire.

The pair discuss Huw Edwards getting a suspended sentence for child sex offences on Monday which has led to a lot of criticism. Edwards pleaded guilty at Magistrates' Court to three counts of making indecent images of children.

I'm presuming Huw Edwards had the best defence team, that his money can buy?
I'm guessing they prepped and planned this outcome, from the get-go.
This wasn't a 'Court Case' of a rich, well known, influential establishment man... it was a choreographed sham.
If Huw was a 'skint little man' his over night bag, packed with essentials, would have been put to good use.

You are correct Julia. The judges wanted to send out a message to the online keyboard warriors and rioters, but that judge never sent out a message to Huw...he just let him off scot free and he never sent him to prison (a 6 month suspended prison sentence for 2 years is not real punishment). If the judge had sent Huw to prison, that would've sent a better and clearer message.

It isn't WHO he is, it's WHAT he did that they 'go easy' on. Lesser-known folk, non-celebs, and 'nobodies' have received this 'light touch' for these behaviours. It's not about being a celeb-pdf, it's about being part of a 'club' that the system supports.

I agree with the lawyer that the case should have been tried in the Crown Court and Huw Edwards should have been given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
