If you cut the test strips in half with scissors, they still read the same, and you just doubled the amount in the package.

Those betta cups don’t have a filter so the water won’t be cycled. You won’t get nitrites or nitrates. You need to test the ammonia in the betta cups.

Cory has a video that is a few years old and he compares the Tetra test strips vs the API master kit and they have the same results he said people think test strips are bad because the API test strips and the master kit has a lot more uses and that is the kit I use.
I didn't watch this all the way to the end yet but I do want to know Petco's water quality

Also: test the water which goes into the tanks. ;) Knowing what the water is before it goes in helps you to determine what needs to be done right off the bat. Our water here is really good, when we lived in texas it was REALLY bad.

Test strips are actually fairly inaccurate- a liquid test kit like the api master kit would be much more accurate.

I tested petco water when I got home after buying calico fantail the ammonia was at .50 and nitrate was 80ppm, I used api master test kit.
