1 minute in: Okay, that doesn't seem too hard.

3 minutes in: Well, maybe I can get somebody to help me with it.

6 minutes in: Hey, is this Tony's Auto Repair? Great, how much would you charge to replace a transmission?

You’re like the only guy on here with engine work videos on this car.

FANTASTIC WORK! THANKS FOR TAKING TIME TO MAKE AND POST THIS VIDEO. I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO SEE HOW THIS IS DONE.

If you replace the engine or transmission make sure that you replace the rear main seal and the O ring on top of the main seal and also all of the axle and input seals on the transmission there's like 4 of them. You do all that work no point in waiting for a leak and then having to rip it out again just for some stupid rubber seals

Wow!...now I know why I bought mine so cheap...it is not a DIY..great video!

The subframe is actually joined about midway on both sides by three or four bolts on the left and right. By separating it there you don't have to take the entire subframe down, nor the steering assembly or the exhaust. Yes, it was this same model, same engine size, etc. Twas an informative video though. I see now why not many people post these videos (Honda transmission removal), because it can be a pain in the anus. Thumbs up, holmes.

So much to disassemble to bring transmission down on this Accord v6. Wonder if it would have been easier to pull out engine and transmission thru the top, and then separate them outside. I need to do this job on my 99 v6 soon to change the rear main seal. I did change this seal on my 2000 civic and that was a piece of cake (no lower member or rack & pinion removal needed).

By the way the transmission on my Accord started to slip and give me problems and issues after approx 20 minutes of driving my car, but I noticed that after cooling off I was able to restart it and drive it fine for another 20 minutes approx to get the same symptoms again. My conclusion was that the transmission fluid was overheating and decided to install a trans cooler, a magnetic filter, and drain & replace the fluid (with valvoline Atf for Hondas - I have used them in several of my Hondas with no problem whatsoever-). It totally fixed my problem, and I just hope I can get more life from this transmission.

I would definitely recommend to any Accord or Odyssey owner to install a transmission cooler since these cars definitively have overheating problems.

Great video. Thanks.

Wow that was an epic job to do. OMG the work involved, it must be a whole day to change it out. 👍👍

After careful consideration, I have decided that whomever attempts a DIY on this transmission is absolutely nuts. I would have gotten agitated and aggravated after pulling those things from under the hood. No way in hell would I ever do this.

this video is packed with info, i know it's a long procedure, but i think you should of done a slower video where you have better shots and more explanations, everything in the video was a little to fast (look at video's from "eric the car guy".

To Mr. Eslick and others who are familiar with unbolting a transmission from an old and/or high mileage engine, I have this question:
With the transmission out, why not take the opportunity to replace the rear main seal for good measure? The seal material is original with twenty years and a bazillion miles on it, it is not a life-time part, and they do tend to weep oil as a result. Comments? Opinions?

Why did you have to remove the back engine mount? It doesn't seem to be in the way or connected to the transmission?

I have a 02 accord and i think the transmissiom is about to fail. I was wonderong if it makes any sence to replace it since all the transmissions from that era are garbage, it may need replacing again. Wouldt it make more sence to rebuild it. Just wondering

Ummm.... just did one at the shop last week, rack/pinion doesn't need to come out. Subframe separates by the driver side to give enough room to pull the trans out. And book rate is only 6.2hrs to do. Looks like you made way more work for yourself than was needed 😐
