This was wrote 375 BCE. And perfectly explains the world today. There used to be 2 or 3 methods of instant information ( tv shows) now we have millions. This frightens the politicians that cast the shadows for civilization. We are all seeing the light.

The allegory applies on many levels - modern students tend to associate the world of shadows with the lies on television. It's all that and more, the shadows represent temporary and fleeting things, the material world in general. Plato was influenced by Pythagoras and the invention of pure mathematics - the eternal truths that were being discovered as theorems of geometry led him to conceive of the world of the forms - the world in the sun is about timeless and eternal things in general.
