New York City suburbs shaken by earthquake

The power of Friday's earthquake traveled far and wide, including to New York City's suburbs to the north and the east. CBS New York's Jennifer McLogan and Tony Aiello report.

Long Island has a different kind of rock underneath it than the Five Boroughs' bedrock, it is in looser layers so the same earthquake measurement can mean MORE shaking.
I learned that today via the WNYC radio broadcast interview with a geologist.

How do we know it's an earthquake & not an underground explosion?

I knew it was an earthquake. There was one in the mid-80s that I experienced in Queens. So, this felt familiar. But I still looked outside for the huge truck that wasn't there. It felt like being in a car going over a rough road.

An earthquake occurred in Taiwan several days prior to this one in NY. 
See? It’s all connected somehow. A child is born then a person walks a dog on another continent while someone turns off a lamp next door and someone is given a plate of food hundreds of miles away but then a bird is chirping by your window. It’s all intertwined.

Yo I live in nyc but I didn’t even felt the earthquake until I heard ppl talking about it and I also heard the phone alarm going off after the earthquake which I saw and found out that nyc felt the 4.8 magnitude which I didn’t felt at all

I wasn’t fazed one bit. My first quake was like 45 years ago. If anyone remembered that one. It was minor also. I think it a was a Saturday.😂😂😂
