Dr. Michael Gonzalez Ramos, General Surgeon with Baptist Health South Florida, explains with a graphic how a hiatal hernia is caused and how it looks like.

He explains this type of hernia is more complicated because it can’t usually be seen on the outside. It occurs in the diaphragm.

Hiatal hernia is very painful, patients get chest pain, reflux and heartburn. This hernia affects quality of life and patients should be referred to a surgeon for evaluation.

I’m grateful to this doctor for acknowledging the impact this condition has on a person’s life, unlike my doctor who seems quite u concerned that I can only eat liquids and pureed food and I feel like I have eaten glass most of the time.

I know I'm extremely late to this video but the thing that helped me the most was losing weight and eating healthier, smaller portions of food. It's my son's birthday and I screwed up tonight and ate McDonald's and birthday cake after being on a clean eating diet and I'm suffering in pain right now🤦‍♀️😧😭 I've been living with this hiatal hernia for 30yrs!!! Doctor's never wanted to do surgery..just diet and exercise. I usually take Prevacid before eating greasy or acidic foods but I was unprepared tonight and the pain feels like a heart attack. Haven't had an episode in over 10yrs and one night going overboard did me in!!😧

I recently underwent laparoscopic surgery to cure acid reflux due to hiatal hernia. It’s early days to comment on effectiveness but feeling better.
All the best everyone.

I have a small hiatal hernia. Not too worried at this time. But I’ve had an incisional ventral hernia since 2014. I’ve had 4 major abdominal surgery and I make tough scar tissue and a lot of adhesions. The last surgery was a complete bowel obstruction with sepsis and the hernia is along that incision inside. It is on my mind a lot. Because of my other circumstances several doctors have said they won’t repair it unless there is an emergency or have to go in for some other reason. Just too risky.

God helped me release my htl hernia. Jump up and down with abs relaxed and while jumping use your right hand and push in repeatedly where your stomach is on the left. Do for like 5-10 seconds.
It popped mine out after 6 years of hell.
Its not a one and done deal you'll have to do it multiple times a day to break up those adhesions.

I developed a hiatal hernia after severe constipation after a food poisoning & subsequently stomach paralysis. At one point they had me on Prednisone and also Prilosec.

I currently have a hiatal hernia. I don't feel anything other than very mild symptoms of acid reflux. And that is with the drs telling me it's a large hole of 4cm to 5cm big.
I am having gastric surgery, and they will be going in and fixing the hernia as well. I'm happy about that.
Life will be much easier after it is fixed.
It's stressful. Because you can't eat or do everything you would like to. You feel left out. Sometimes hungry. A little depressed. But you have to know that knowing about it is important so you can help it and stop the issue before it worsens. Because the moment your intestines slip through, man... i can't imagine the pain that must cause.
If you have heartburn or acid reflux, get an endoscopy, an upper GI, x-ray, and a stomach ultrasound. They will help you. 100%.
