Man, your commitment to fast posting is great. I know some reviewers have like 5-8 laptops already and gonna stretch the reviews 1 laptop a month.

It would be great if you had some short overall laptop review. Like, Katana with 4070 is the cheapest 4070 yet, but very crappy overall.

Is there out there a laptop without unicorn vomit RGB, edgy/cringy design and overall good to use as a work/game laptop for a grown man? I've got a lot of stinkeye for acid RGB, funny edgy chasis and loud work noise.

The 85 watt version of the 4050 is the premium offering in laptops so it would be interesting to see how the 45 watt version compares to the 3050 ti. I picked up a Lenovo Leigon Laptop with a 3050 ti for $569 and I always wonder about the price/performance Im gettin :)

So glad that i skipped 3000 series because of the horrible 8nm process node by Samsung (that always loses to TSMC) leading to high power consumption and the lower end only have 4GB vram

Funny enough all the 4050 laptops available in my area starts at the $2200 range, while the 3050ti started at the $1500 range. At least people in the market now have decent choices for the capable 3050 or the really capable 4050, assuming it's in their budget.

I feel sad for those who got hyped on hating the 3000 series months back, and went for something like a more expensive but older 1660ti laptop. That GPU isn't holding up too well now.

Rtx3050ti shows lower fps in some games mainly caused by vram bottle neck, it is not made to run in ultra setting and cannot support high res texture. Make a comparison in medium setting will be more reasonable in those games that need more than 4 g of vram

I think you should turn DLSS on in every game that supports it... It doesn't make much sense to just turn it off... Both the 3000 series and 4000 series support DLSS.. Frame generation can be shown in a third window.
And when can we expect the 140W 4050 and 4060 videos?

Hey @Hubwood ! Looking on speecsheet of Gigabyte AERO 16 OLED (2023) website I just found the following "Max. 150W CPU-GPU Power with GIGABYTE Turbo Boost Technology." This references combined power draw between GPU (Max105watts) and CPU.


Now my guess is that similar restrictions are being applied on many laptops, thats why in many benchmarks GPU(rated at 105W) power draw rarely exceeds 85-90Watts...
So, I think that undervolting (if possible) and limitting max power to a lower one (for example 45W) of the CPU, will provide better results in FPS and in GPU benchmarks, as if CPU suddenly "wants" more power it won't "steal" GPU performance and probably won't get sudden frame drops.


Looking at your video, seems that MSI Katana 15 B12V at 02:20 for a split second draws 100Watts in GPU and 34.5Watts in CPU that combined power is 135Watts, I think that is the higher sum I've seen in this video, so it probably IS the combined power restriction of this laptop. Anyway, I think that this sum can be calculated by applying a stress test at the CPU and GPU at the same time and averaging the total power draw.


It's quite an interesting topic and I think all manufacturers should include this information at their specsheet of all their models!


I've found that MSI Titan GT77HX in specs indicates a max of 250W CPU-GPU combined power and it comes with a 330W adapter, also MSI Vector GP68HX in specs indicates a max of 195W CPU-GPU combined power and it comes with a 280W adapter.

So seems like MSI is limitting combined power to approx. 80Watts less than its rated adapter Wattage.

Therefore, with this information we can estimate that if MSI Katana 15 B12V that comes with a 200W adapter will have an estimate CPU-GPU combined power of 120W (not counting "sporadic" spikes such as in 02:20). Following this estimation, MSI Stealth 14 and 16Studio that comes with a 220W adapter should have an estimate CPU-GPU combined power of 140W.



Would be interesting to see if this "limitation" is being capped via firmware/software or really it's down to it's power adapter. It could be easily checked by doing the same benchmarks with a higher wattage adapter.

3050ti is quite powerful but idk what's Nvidia thinking giving it 4gb vram because of this every modern game wont run smooth due to vram limitations
