Anxiety versus gut intuition - How do you tell the difference? This is one of the most common questions I hear as a counselor who specializes in treating anxiety disorders. Anxiety has a way of making you doubt yourself. This video explains how you can tease apart anxiety and intuition while getting into when and how you can actually trust those gut instincts of yours.

From my experience, genuine gut feelings are bereft of any anxiety whatsoever and the mental equivalent of a friend gently tapping us on the shoulder and saying, “Hey buddy, watch out for X.”.

The facts can cloud your judgment. I’ve learned that if I get a intuitive hit that I need to go with it.

This was so incredibly helpful, thank you! I have been having such a difficult time discerning what is my logical gut and what is my illogical anxiety (but anxiety could be logical, like you said, which honestly I never realized until now) and which path to follow. For about a year and a half, I lived in a constant state of anxiety (quite literally I would wake up feeling incredibly anxious - unfocused, stomach pains, mind racing, inability to eat, constant fearful state - and that feeling would not go away until I went to sleep) because I felt like my head, my heart, and my gut were all telling me different things in regards to a decision I had to make and I kept trying to quell what my head (and maybe my gut, based on your description of it in this video) was telling me, leading to the prolonged state of anxiety. I am still not sure if illogical anxiety led to the decision I ultimately made, or if logical anxiety and/or my gut led me to the decision, but I think this video has helped me better see and understand what factors were at play. Thank you so much!

Quick question - why does anxiety get louder the more we ignore it? If it IS getting louder the more we ignore it, is that our intuition then and we should follow it? Is it logical?

Oh Dear Good Lady,
Thank you so many times for the video. This has been helpful, yes. Apart from other aspects of the video such as the quality of sound and your nice way of explaining things, the content helps come closer to the end point in our fight.
I have one question:
I happen to have some anxious thoughts as to some close ones which I cannot kick off my mind. I searched the internet a bit and some things look like paranoid personality disorder.
I want to go a little deeper if you let me. Even though I was told that some issues are not the way I thought, I cannot get rid of the idea ‘What if it happened and I am being wronged?’ So, my anxiety is ‘pastwards’. Sometimes I am relieved, too, by the thought ‘No it cannot be as you think’ which stems from some good memories.
So how can I tell the difference between anxiety and intuition in the retrospective matters?
Your answer is of high value, madam. Thanks in advance.

How do I find a good counselor? Do I just go to any psychologist? Or psychiatrist?

Just a little confused.. you just explained 'to feel intuition you need to work with your anxiety' when the title implies you would explain the sensory difference for those who can't distinguish them. Or am I missing something here?

I'm reading a fanfic that I really want to read but also somewhat not although I think me not wanting to read it is just my anxiety talking although I've cried over this fanfic even though nothing sad has happened and it's not a sad fanfic. The fanfic is super popular. What am I feeling?
