For this year’s event, we gathered all the victors together to walk you through our categories and say a little about why each car was chosen, culminating in the reveal of the winner of the coveted Carbuyer Best Car of the Year award.

The Carbuyer team has rated every car on sale in the UK, evaluating how they perform in key areas to find out which is best for you. 6:40 what? The 4 series was never a competitor to the Audi TT and Porsche Cayman. The Z4 was, not the 4 series.

The Hyundai Tucson is a great car and you were right about diving it those awards but I would say the best convertible of the year is the Mazda MX5. Yes the Mini is a 4 seater but the rear seats are barely usable.

I love japanese cars, but it is undeniable that the koreans has been producing superb cars in recent years, to the extend of even surpassing the Japanese in reliability. I say this because i owned two generations of i10, and the hyundai elantra which is not available in the uk. Apart from changing set of absorbers, nothing had broken down within my ownership of 10 yrs. recently had a mazda 2, great engine but ac condenser broke, noise from steering shaft, suspension doesn’t last as long as hyundais. Same issue with my brother’s prius c, i would say the Japanese cars are overrated sometimes

good video loved the format of it (and steady camera work), but need to split hot-hatches into small and medium, we can't all fit into Fez ST or i20 N's -- that's why we have Focus ST, i30 N and Civic Type R, to still wipe the floor with VW 😀 But also like that the estate category is still going (yes some of us don't like SUV's), even if there were a few better choices than a Skoda Octavia.

Id say the kia soul EV smashes the zoe with a club... for only a few grand more

The GR Yaris costs 20% more than an i20n. 20% for more power, trick 4 wheel drive system, much better brakes, unique chassis to change the roofline height, move the engine further back, even double wishbone suspension and of course, aluminium and CFRP used to lower weight. £5k more is suddenly a bargain when you consider resell values will remain high. Infact, a used GR Yaris cost about the same as new one.



The best convertible... a mini!? Best convertible would be an MX5! The mini was never designed as a convertible and it shows, it's freaking fugly with the "hump" when the roof is down.

Best estate car? Errrm Peugeot 508? There's nothing wrong with the Skoda but the Peugeot would edge it on style alone.

ID3? No thanks, rather take a Tesla 3 ANY day. The drop in slight build quality (ID3 has a lot of issues too) would be offset by the much superior drivetrain.

Best Large company car is a Taycan which is more of a sports car... and the best sports car is a 4 series which is a large company car!

I wonder how much Hyundai / Kia paid for the reviews?

I can't help being influenced by my passed experience, owned a Kia for the last 10 yrs 1prob door handle
fixed with a quick visit to dealer, but after 10 years I'm not sure if the battery will last all this winter.
