Very cool, thank you Paul for the transparency, this has been a cool project to follow as I'm researching a freshwater build myself.
For those interested in salt or even fresh water ponds I highly recommend doing your own research and pricing. There are ways to save money and still have nice setups. A $1700 pond/pool filter could easily be replaced by a 32gal trash can, a $200-$300 pump and $100-$200 worth of media and PVC etc...
The hobby does not require ludicrous spending although it is fun to watch other people do it.

Yes you should definitely do it because again it gives it a spot to get out of the mud when it rains I like you were saying put a roof on it so it keeps them dry
