Gene Drive Basics: A short explanation

Показать описание
This short explanatory video describes the genetic phenomenon call gene drive and provides the viewer with simplified descriptions of two general ways that gene drive is achieved, both in nature and in the laboratory. The use of Cas 9 from the CRISPR/Cas system from bacteria which is also commonly used for gene editing is the basis for creating some, but not all gene drive systems in the laboratory. The concepts of 'weak' and 'strong' drive are illustrated as well as the concept of a 'drive threshold'. These two concepts are used to describe the performance potential of gene drive systems.
