What is a gene drive?

This short animation explains how the Gene Drive technology makes it possible to override the natural rules of inheritance with the help of the genetic engineering tool CRISPR/CAS9: a new genetically engineered trait is passed on to all offspring - even if it is lethal for them. The genetic chain reaction triggered by Gene Drives can be used to genetically modify, replace or even eradicate wild animal or plant populations and species.
