Chris Rea ~ Driving Home For Christmas (1986)

This great song by "Chris Rea" was first released in 1986 as a non album single, but it was not until 1988 that it got to number 53 in the UK singles chart, and it re entered the UK charts in 2007 where this time it made it to number 33. i think this is a great song and should have been a number 1 hit..While i am here i would like to take this Opportunity in wishing all my friends and subscribers a Happy Christmas and the best of luck and good health for the coming new year... This song was a favorite of my dad in the 1980s. Fast forward thirty years and he and I are driving during a mild snow and this song comes on. He starts singing it and I'm in tears...you see my dad, at that point, was suffering from end-stage Alzheimer's; he didn't even know who I was. He had all but forgotten how to speak in simple sentences. But when this song started playing, it's like the lightbulb came on and he started singing, not missing a single word. This song will always hold a special place in my heart!

My brother drives truck part time from his main job now and then to help a friend's business and to make a little extra money for he and his wife and four daughters at home. He was coming home for Christmas a couple years ago (Good Story!) and he had it worked out that when he got two miles from home in his truck, he texted me to gather everyone around the TV and I played this for everyone. At the end of the song....my brother was heard driving down the long driveway and up to the house in his truck to the happy screams of his daughters...it was just a really cool thing for everyone and especially for a guy who'd been gone for 5 days who made it home for Christmas with his family. Just thought I'd share a very special moment with this song. Merry Christmas everyone.

I used to drive home for Christmas every year to see my father. I used to play this song every year in the car with big anticipation of meeting him and the whole family. Now he's passed away 2 years ago and all I have is "a thousand memories" of good family times with my father... And "I sing for you, though you can't hear me"...
