im gonna add another: the tachi was used as a cavalry sword, because of this, the curve needed to be tighter for the samurai too draw it with one hand. the equipment is different as well, since the tachi had those hooks on the saya, it was hung with a lot of strings. the katana, blade up, was used on foot and close quarters combat, with the edge up, the blade is safer from cracking the saya.

Your draw grip at the end is all wrong. You NEVER want to twist the blade out of the scabbard... pull the scabbard and sword with both hands out in front of you when your arms are half extended start pulling back on the scabbard and use the scabbard NOT THE SWORD to turn the blade handle into the correct position in your hand. By gripping the sword handle with a closed fist you are putting leverage on the inside of the scabbard which notoriously clam shells open the scabbard breaking it and normally cutting the hand on the scabbard. Watch so old pro swordsmen demonstrate it properly. You are really risking cutting youself if you draw it like the guy did in the end of the video..

The katana was not 23 inches that is way too short.
