I have a large silk scarf that packs into a snack sized bag - makes a cozy blanket, cover-up, or accessory. I also have a small packing bag with plugs, charging cables, battery charger, ear buds & earplugs. It is always packed and ready to go so I can throw it into a purse or backpack.

Folding Canvas Tray. I think it came from Magellans. Keeps phone, handkerchief, wallet, pen, change, keys, watch, etc. together on the side table. Folds flat and goes in the top packing cube. I have many of them, and have given many more as gifts.

Group travel tip: if you regularly travel with a group or groups (family, SO, friends, whatever), its helpful for everyone to have a color of their own. For instance, my color is green. My spouse's is black. My sons is blue. As much of my camping and travel gear as possible has my color on it. If not possible, a bit of nail polish or colored duct tape works. That way, it's a lot easier to identify whose gear is whose. I started doing that in Girl Scouts 50 years ago. For instance, my travel backpack, daypack, messenger bag, cosmetic case, travel mug (loose tea), microfiber towel, silicone foldable mug and bowl or mess kit, etc, are all green

Even when traveling solely inside the US, I travel with a UK plug converter for planes. The universal power outlet that many planes have at the seat are often loose and stretched out. A UK plug is big and will stay in those outlets firmly while others fall out.

I’ve always traveled with extension cords because I can have those outlets up on the table and not have to bend down a lot. Also helps to avoid leaving something behind, plugged in on on the floor, that you’re charging before leaving the hotel.

For anyone in the UK hesitating to buy the Kitsch bars, the shipping is free and it arrives within about 5 days. Also, the shampoo bar is shaped like an 'S' and the conditioner is shaped like a 'C'. Simple but brilliant

I never go out without my teeny tiny collapsible umbrella - but I am British and it rains a lot in the UK.

I'm a convert to all my packs having a waist/hip strap, even my ultra-light, extra small day pack. I've been carrying the REI Flash 18 for years and it's still in perfect shape. Carries heavier loads more comfortably because the weight is on my hips, not shoulders. New ones weigh just over 9 ounces, and have a removable back cushion that you can leave at home if you want.

A power bank(external battery) for cellphone charging/top ups. First time I brought one with me on a recent Europe trip and I used it more than I expected.

My #1 item is my mini umbrella from Muji. I bought it over 5 years ago! It's lightweight and flips right back to normal when the wind flips it inside out. I never leave home without it! And I've learned, it's crazy how many people don't actually carry an umbrella in their purse.

Love your tips! For some reason, I find traveling with a small roll of light colored “painter’s tap”, a permanent marker, couple of empty ziplock bags & few good strong paper towel sheets always comes in handy. Also found those tiny “dry” towels that once wet expands and are great for make up removal, drying your face, etc. and can be reused.

I bought a small camping clothesline with me and always have it along when traveling. Even if I don't do laundry it helps to air out clothes for another day of wear and gives more options to hang up clothes if the closet is small.

I always bring a Turbe Twist head wrap towel in a bight color. It comes in handy in a number of ways.

Nora, thanks for the tips. I like that you don’t try to pack for every emergency or scenario. I pack in a minimalist style and always bring a few ziplocks for lining a plane seat pocket or for either the trash I create or picking up trash i find. Happy Traveling!

Great items to consider - love! I don't go anywhere without my Swiss Card. It's a small credit card sized plastic container with a pen, toothpick, magnifier, scissors, pin, ruler, and file. I've never NOT used it on a trip.

Everyone needs to have their own travel system and routine that works for them, that's as complicated or simple as they feel comfortable with, so there's obviously not one that works for everyone. But it's really helpful to have one and nice to come across so many useful tips. Of course the hard part is having the discipline to actually come up with and use a system, and I'm still working on that.

Every trip I take I promise to get it right, and of course don't. The one tip I have is don't put it off till shortly before your trip. You'll have enough on your mind then to likely not have the mental space to do this too. I get trip anxiety before every trip, worried that I'll forget something, pack too much, too little or the wrong things, etc., and I'm just too stressed out to be able to think about anything beyond the absolute essentials. So I have to work on my system well in advance. Someday I'll get it right. I keep telling myself.

I’m very frugal with toiletries. Many are in the hotels or Airbnbs. Water can be bought at the destination. I reuse the bottle. Nora, your videos are always so helpful. Makes me rethink before I’m on my way. Vietnam this time.

Travel accommodations usually supply soap and conditioner but not shaving cream. Kitsch makes a great solid shaving balm perfect for men and also for women.

I’ve had that same power strip for over 5 years and never travel without it. I wish they would make one like it that had USB-C ports too. I also take a power bank for charging on the go. Thanks for recommending the shampoo and conditioner bars. I just ordered them. I tried Lush bars years ago and didn’t care for them. I’m hoping I’ll like these. How long would you estimate a bar would last?

The perfect power strip would have
* universal plugs
* surge protection
* 2m cord
* GaN technology
* 65W PD
* USB-C [x2], USB-A [x1]
Something that goes beyond "first world problems"...
