Have you ever noticed that every pilot and flight staff uses the exact same carry-on?

Okay, maybe not every pilot, but enough to where you can’t stop noticing it once you start paying attention

So i found out what they use the only way i knew how: i asked

And they all said a brand you’ve probably never heard of: LuggageWorks

Wow, this vid blew up! Was a year in the works so it means a lot. Answering some common questions below:

1. It’s the LW Stealth 22”

2. As I say in the video, I do *not* recommend people buy this unless you're a pilot, flight crew, or daily traveler.

👉 link to a carry-on I *do* recommend: type jo.my/carryon into your web browser

3. No, this isn’t an ad. I bought this myself in March 2022 after doing my own research, I’ve had no contact w/ LW or any of their affiliates, and am not and have not received compensated in any way. They never even replied to my emails when i reached out for comment 😭 My account in general is impressively unprofitable since I haven't accepted a collab in about 18 months, but being able to say what I want, when I want, however I want is priceless to me.

4. No, I don't own this own company nor do I do any dropshipping at all. Neither of them appeal to me and both of those professions make more money than what I do. Also I wasn't born yet when LW was founded.

5. I'm a one-man team, so if you liked this video, every 'LIKE' and SUBSCRIBE will always mean a ton to me. 💙

fun fact luggage works was started by an airline pilot who got tired of needing to buy new bags when his got ruined

The weight is the real problem here. A pilot doesn't really care about the weight only about the sturdiness but a passenger DOES care about the weight.

"You'll be mistaken for a pilot" no this is great cuz the baggage handlers won't yeet my bag to Calcutta

They make a carbon version now that’s half the weight…I’ve had mine for 8 years and still going strong

Would baggage handler potentially treat it better?

“I asked”. It’s so simple. We should all do more asking in life.

I’ve had mine for about 13 years as a pilot using it roughly 4 days a week. It’s a tank and has taken a beating. Dragged through snow to the bus stop in chicago for a decade, had to have the bottom cast rebuilt twice because sidewalk salt/chemicals caused the wheel axles to eventually fuse to the wheel bearings to the point where they weren’t removable. The side rails have bowed over years as most do. Black paint is chipping away from the metal back plate and rails from slamming it up stairs. 3 years of commuting to various cities as well. At the regionals it was gate checked for every deadhead and was at the mercy of rampers where I would occasionally lose zippers or clips. It looks worn and I regularly get an “omg how long have you had that bag” reaction from other aviation employees and co workers but considering I’ve been living out of it for over a decade and still on my new hire bag shows how impressive of a bag it is. Most FAs use travelpro, getting out of crew vans I’ve seen numerous FAs with broken bag handles, struggling to extend or retract them or one of the handle rails is completely gone. They just seem like cheap plastic bags but probably more sturdy than your casual passenger bag but can’t hold a candle to the durability of LW. If I used a regular travel bag I have no doubt I’d be on at least my 5th bag by now, this thing is solid.

My dad is a pilot and has one of these. It has lasted him like 25 years and is still going strong.

And as a airport employee I can tell you that it also is the bag that gets thrown around the most

"Please! Both Pilots have suffered massive head trauma and can't continue! Is anyone in the passenger cabin a licensed pilot?"
_"No, but I do own a LuggageWorks carry on bag!"_

Yeah I use baggageworks and got on the plane and they led me too the cockpit.
I ended up flying myself to Florida.
Weird day but surprisingly chill.

Flight attendant here! We use luggage works and Travel Pro for a few additional reasons as well.
1. Most airlines require us to have solid black luggage, and some require no hard shell suitcases with 4 wheels. Also, when we work, we don't check our bags into cargo, they go in the cabin in the overhead bins. The only time we might have to gate check our bags is if we are "deadheading" which is basically us flying as a passenger to reposition for our next working flight.
2. The reason we don't use hard shell suitcases with 4 wheels is because some planes (like the CRJ 200) have overhead bins that are too small for those.
3. Some airlines give us allotment for new uniform pieces/bags. So usually the lugagge brands are LW or Travelpro.
4. And lastly, we use LW and Travelpro because they have a built in clip at the top to connect the J hook which most other brands do not have. We need these J hooks to hold those additional smaller bags aka (crew coolers) which usually hold our next 4-5 day's worth of food. Hope that helps explain a bit more!

And yes, most pilots use the metal frame ones in the video and most flight attendants use the Travelpro rollaboard. If you use either, flight crew will probably think you're one of us haha. They are both good brands, they may be expensive but they are pretty durable so it's worth it.

“luggageworks, our luggage works”
- their slogan, probably

I’m a pilot and I use Briggs and Riley. 1/4 the weight of luggage works just as tough and an even better warranty.

keep in mind airline employees have different needs than travellers. They are frequent users but generally aren't going long distances, and the inset wheels are durable and use less room. But if you're going long distances all at once the drag-behind kind tend to hurt your arm after a while whereas spinners aren't as durable but are much more comfortable because you can push it ahead of you.

After getting a luggage set that rolls on 4 wheels, I refuse to go back to 2 wheeled luggage.

Proud user of a TravelPro carry on. My dad bought it 30 years ago. He was all proud that it’s “pro”. I still remember when he brought it home. I still can’t get over how it holds up. It’s really beaten up now and I keep fixing it, but it still outlasts any one of those crappy four roller bags. Cheers to many more years of travelling.
