The Taliban's control over Afghan society has limited the ability of women to travel. Women's rights activist Ogai Amil told an RFE/RL's Radio Azadi call-in show on March 31 that due to new rules, bus and taxi drivers often refuse to take individual female clients.

You had the opportunity to fight for your 'rights' now you've lost them. Who do I blame? Your 'Men' who wouldn't even take the time to figure out Side Straddle Hopps, or any kind of basic military strategy. Bear in mind I did 3 trips to Iraq and 2 to Afghanastan, and you know what I learned the soldiers from both armies only really agreed on one thing, women were given too many rights! Yall were screwed when you decided to be a lady and not defend yourself.

The Afghans chose not to fight for their country. They had a well trained and well equipped army that chose not to confront the Taleban.

Subjugation, power and control the weapons used against women throughout history. I do believe in a military that has at least an equal number of women to men for obvious reasons and women need to grasp in larger numbers the necessity of this understanding. An aspect of this ugly thing is on the rise again where it most often affects women in the lower classes predominantly-first. Amazingly, I have always been a “middle of the road” sort of person, I am no feminist. What I AM is a practical realist. It matters not what a person’s political bent, some people abuse power in many different ways. It amazes me how the concept of right to life begins at conception and ends at the cradle. What explanation is offered by antiabortionists to the child brought into a violent situation in a so called ‘family’ when that child is starved, abused in so many ways, and sometimes killed. The woman speaking here is experiencing an existence of mental and physical misery not uncommon to women in many places around the world. I ask when is enough enough.
