That is precisely why I LOVE volcanoes, earthquakes, storms, & other extremes of nature~ They are humbling & remind me that very little is under my control.

Those ice caves would make amazing Fortress of Solitude settings. Shoot all the caves from every angle and use that trick they use on Mandolorian

I lived for several years in Eldorado, a small town in São Paulo, Brazil, where there is the entrance to a cave of volcanic origin called Caverna do Diabo (Devil's Cave). Tourists can only appreciate the first magnificent galleries that extend for a few tens of meters from the entrance, but the cave extends for more than 100 kilometers underground and emerges in another city. Only very trained people get authorization to exploit this. All of that was created by intense volcanic activity millions of years ago.

"...they're exquisite, sort of like Fairyland."
Where is this 'Fairyland' place that many folks talk so highly of ? Are there pics of it?

It's funnyto hear Io being called a 'people's definition of a hellscape'. I know that Arthur C Clarke had a character of his in his novel '2010' compare it to Tolkein's land of Mordor, even quoting a description of the latter to describe it..

That 🌋 on IO THE SIZE OF ALASKA WITH 200 MILE HIGH PLUMES HAS TO BE STAGGERING TO WITNESS. EVEN THOUGH ITS RUMORED TO BE ELECTRICAL SPARKS AND "NOT" LAVA. THE LOCATIONS OF THE PLUMES SHIFT, BY MILES WHICH ARENT CONSISTENT WITH VOLCANOES in terms of behavior. They also are too hot to be studied up close because they FRY THE INSTRUMENTATION AND THE GLARE IS TOO BRIGHT TO GET A GOOD PHOTO. OF THE PLUMES.

If Erebus is being supplied by material from 100km down in the mantle, does that indicate it's a hot-spot volcano rather than subduction-melt volcano?

I wonder when we will be so arrogant that we will plant extremophiles on the surface of Io just to see what wouldn't see it in our lifetimes, of course, but eventually... that would be a fascinating experiment.... I wonder who planted the exremophiles on Earth just to see what happens?

Are we sure that volcanoes aren't previous star remnants or the sun shedding A layer remnants?

You’d think after the volcano took a chunk of his brain, they’d know there’s no reason to go back and try to look again. Now we have drones that can look for you
