How To Cope with Vision Loss/Blindness - Where to Start - It's Okay to Not Be Okay

Hello Everyone! I put a little video together talking about some of the things to consider if you recently lost vision, or have a progressive eye disorder. I wish someone would have been able to share some of these words of wisdom with me when I was going through my vision loss, so I'm hoping it may help you or someone you know cope with vision loss. It's a long road but we're all in it together and I'm happy to help any way I can. If you have any questions that weren't covered in the video, I'm happy to answer in the comments.

Finding gainful employment after losing, my eyesight has been my largest obstacle. After working with my hands, my entire life, I found myself with the need to learn accessibility skills in my mid 40s… Felt as though I were progressing pretty well and that my last typing test was at 44 words per minute . Just can’t find anyone to give me a chance. If I were able to get my foot in the door and show someone what I can do I think it would make a huge difference.
Thanks very much for another great video!

A lot of good advice in this video. I totally agree with learning blind skills while having some vision because it'll just prepare you better for if or when you have less vision. Still learning Braille over here, but I am finding it very useful on those occasions where I need to use it.

I’m watching your video two years after your post today. That’s a great video. I am losing my vision later in life and have been teaching myself blindness skills. Some people have questions why I would do that. Thank you for affirming my decision.

Turn your heart to Jesus. Faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains (problems)

No one naturally has faith but if we turn to Jesus He not only give us faith, He will also perfect our faith. And it's our faith that heals us 🙏🏾 Praying for you

I am currently 12 and though I haven’t completely lost my vision I can tell it is coming to that conclusion soon. I am struggling to keep my composure knowing that I am to blame for my loss. Since when I was very young I was introduced with the devices causing me to grow an addiction, spending more than 5 hours on the screen a day. Every year the doctors tell me the same advice “Spend less time on your device.”, “1 hour maximum a day.”, “Take a break every 20 minutes.” But my stubborn brain did not take the advice leading me to where I am now. I am scared but now I think I will be able to get through this thanks to you ❤.

I used to be a hairdresser for a woman who had hereditary sight loss. I knew/know quite a lot of her family and extended family as a lot of them are Jehovah's witnesses like me. She also did her makeup blind including her mascara. I often wondered how the family coped because no one knew if they had the condition which would make them blind or not. I felt too young and emotionally inept to think about the emotional impact of blindness on that family. I often wondered if it helped them more because they could see others with the progressive blindness of if it actually made it more difficult. Charlie was the only one from them I knew who had the full sight loss and used a cane but the one whose hair I did was pretty much almost entirely blind. I know quite a few of them who don't have it and also have kids etc. People doing videos like this really help us clueless and slightly blunt people not wanting to our our foot in it!
