Hello again Eevi, thanks for reminding me of how frustrating it is to publish with a Publishing house! Everything you say is 100% true, and the news cycle has become really stressful -- making good sales in just 6 months is virtually impossible if you're not a famous author already. OK, so I've decided I need to deal with the marketing part myself. I'm taking control of my own destiny as a children's book author as of NOW. Excellent video! I recently found your channel because I'm sitting on a finished manuscript that I wrote while I was an elementary school teacher a couple of years ago. The timing is opening up in my life where I can dedicate all my focus to making the publication of these stories a reality; however, I want to make sure I do it the right way. Thank you for laying out all the arguments for both routes, and I'm convinced self-publishing is the way forward for me.

My question for you is about pricing: I had an illustrator draw pictures for all the stories in my book. What does a normal split in royalties between writer and illustrator look like?

In my country (Norway) you would as a standard recieve an advance of 95 000 kr, roughly a 2, 5 month salary. So a sum upfront, that is the only potential benefit I see with publishing trad. I’m gonna try to do both; publish single books traditionally and publish book series (with lots of merch attached) myself.

Hello, i just finished writing a children's book about autism. Ive shared it with others inclusing my writer friend who says its good and should could be a book. I have no illistrations and dont know how to go about that. I also know friends who have self published but get zero royalties and just resorted to giving away their books.
