I'm a double uni guy. I can tie it in less than a minute. I'm happy with second place!

3:57 I don't think you gave the Albright knot a fair shake. Just before you added weight to the double uni bucket, it's lip was resting on the Albright bucket, thus adding more weight to the Albright bucket.
Disclaimer: I'm partial to the Albright.
Also: I am thinking about switching my leader ties to the FG knot. As for joining 2 lines for a top shot or additional line, what would be the best knot that will not make a mess in the spool?

I see this is 2 years old. I would like to see the same thing done with the SC and the Yucatan knots in the mix. I would also like to see the knots after they break. Where a knot fails tells you everything about it's weakness.
Can I suggest using sand? You just pour the sand in until it breaks, then weigh the bucket.

Hi bro nice experiment, but do explain where does the failure occur... If the failure is on the knot itself or on the main line/ leader line...

A couple of things:
In the olden days, they determined the pound test of a line by tying on say 10 pounds and on slack line dropping it 1 foot where slack is gone. If it held at 10lb but broke with 11lb, it was 10 lb test line.
Is that still how they still do it?
And, if it is, why did these lines break with only 5 pounds?
Also, did they break at the knot or somewhere on the line?

I've only read a couple of pages of comments here so apologies if I'm repeating others but it's not just the strength of the knot but it's ability to absorb shock of a big hit. Appreciate that should be absorbed by the line (or should be depending on what is used) but there are plenty of immensely strong knots that will snap at a big shock load.

Curious what the Alberto Knot would rank here, because it's such a solid and well designed knot for strength and is low profile to boot.

I can honestly say I have never broken a fish off because of an FG

It took me 2 minutes to learn the FG… will be sticking with it

in Singapore we use the fg knot for almost every type of fishing and most of us have found our own method of making it easy to tie! good to know its the strongest knot in this experiment
cheers.

Fg knot at home pre outing and uni to uni when I need to tie quickly on the boat or kayak

Not sure why people keep comparing old knots - the FG is clearly superior - end of story. And it’s not that hard to tie once you’re used to it. Fiddly, yes - difficult, no.

I ONLY use an FG knot followed with a Rizutto Finish (I think half hitches are okay, but don’t like when they fray and may compromise knot). I land tarpon, snook, bull reds, sharks, grouper, amberjacks and FG knot never fails. Tied it so many times now that I can re-tie within a couple of minutes while on the boat. Shortest leader I will tie is about the length of the rod I’m using or longer...so I’m set for a 3-4 day fishing trip and do not need to re-tie unless if I get snagged or hung up on bottom. Lastly, this is the BEST line to leader knot that enables the angler to cast the knot (especially with longer leaders) through the guides without causing any guide damage due to the extremely low profile of the knot.

Like you said man, i'll usually ties fg's before i go out. I then switch to double uni on the water for how quick and easy i can tie them. I can tie a double uni in the dark...literally.

Am I the only one curious why you have 20 lbs of hammers? Also have you tried the multi overhand knot like they use for fly fishing leader. Usually 3 - 4 over hand knots. Ive used it a bunch for mono to mono and flouro to flouro. I'm trying it out for braid to flouro and it seems to work pretty well and its very quick to tie.

I use the Crazy Alberto knot with my spinning rods 12# Nanofil to whatever leader I’m using for what I’m throwing and I’ve never had the knot break on a fish or snag. The line always breaks not the knot. It’s easier to tie compared to the FG so I’ve never tried to learn the FG. It goes through the guides real smooth. Great vid !

What's a good braid to braid knot? I've been getting snagged a bunch lately, and I need to add more line.
