Who will win the championship?
How can we improve?

I've used both these oils in my 2014 A4. The Liqui Moly gives me a smoother engine operation and idle.

This is very rudimentary testing. The issue is not when the oil is new out the bottle and drains better. Its after 3K miles and 5K miles under load with heat, water, foaming etc. City driving vs highway vs off-road how does it perform? Drain the oils after 5K miles then do tests.

You should heat up the engine oil up to 100 degree Celcius for friction test. Engines operate at high temperature, so metal wear happens in that condition. Testing the anti wear and anti friction performance of the oil at room temperature is not realistic.

This difference is well within a margin for errors really. Let’s say you have a 1% margin, this is around 0, 16% difference. It is extremely difficult to objectively hold the oil responsible for the difference.

Why?
1. No bearing is identical. Even two sides of a bearing are not identical. Simply put, bearings are not made in vacuum or lab conditions.

2. You need to exceed the 1% margin for errors. Perhaps you need to run the test a lot longer. Maybe for hours on end. Everything within that 1% could be due to surfactants like dust or perhaps even tiny metal shavings.

3. You need to replicate exact conditions. The machine and bearing temperature should exactly match in every test. As should for example the weight and the exact mounting positions.

4. You need to be able to replicate this result at least 10 times, interchanging bearings every time. Because to eliminate a case of bad luck, you need to be able to reproduce the exact same conditions and exact same results every single time.

And last but certainly not least...
6. You need to be able to check the oils ability to keep carbon and contaminates in suspense. Not only for cleaning a petrol engine but especially a diesel engine. Especially at extreme temperatures. And with that contaminated oil, what exactly are the results then? And the lubricity.

At this time, this test is really very, very inconclusive at best.

This is an unfair comparison because Magnatec points at anti-friction control whereas the TopTec does not. The equivalent from Liqui Molly is the Molygen series. You should test Magnatec 5w30 vs Molygen 5w30, and the result would be different.

Great test! I’m going to use LIQUI MOLY! Thanks

You first have to put the oil in the same time to the tubes to have the same temperature. Then u can judge between them

How do we know both oils were the same temperature when u let them flow out the tube. One bottle could have been taken out the freezer earlier. Because u poured the castrol first it had more time exposed to ambient temperature and would have been warmer etc. If small differences determine a winner then u need to be more accurate

It is stupid to compare oils with different specifications! Not all 5W30 oils have same viscosity! For example this liqui moly viscosity at 40C is 71 mm2/s, and castrol is 56. Thats why castrol flows faster in the tube.

Oil bearing test is stupid too! There are no such high pressures in the engine like we see on this test machine!

People dont be fooled by such tests! There is no best oil! The best one is the one recommended for specific car \ engine. You can find that on the sites of oil company the one you like.

Can you do a comparison with Castrol Edge Euro car? It has fluid-titanium technology & I’m really curious if it’s better than liqui-moly

I have used both full synthetic engine oils in my polo and liqui moly toptec 4100 5w40 is far better than castrol edge 5w40 makes engine smoother and reduces vibration and noise.

Im not in the defense of any of this oils in particular. For me both are on the podium for best oils, but Liqui Moly has so many different types of 5w30 because they develop according to specifications. I would have done, for example a comparisson between Liqui Moly 5w30 Longtime High Tech against Castrol Edge 5w30 LL. That would be similar. Though, the best oil is the one that meets your car's specifications...

What is the best Castrol magnatec or Castrol edge ?

In my opinion this is a useless "test" for an oil. Here in Oz it recommends to use 0w30 engine oil by Toyota and with our warmer climates once you engine is up to operating temps it basically turns to vapour and clogs up your intake. So I went for a 10w40 and oil consumption is far less and with the aid of an oil catch can and regular maintance no more clogged up intake or heavy oil consumption.... Personally I use Penrite oil for my engines

Im going to use liqui moly top tec 4200 5w30 and add the mos2 additve as well for maximum German efficiency..

benn using castrol magnatec with liquid moly mos2 and lubeguard engine--has worked great for me-engines have ran much quieter
