ACB stands for 'Active Chip Breaker.' This breaks chips in a controlled manner, eliminating the accumulation of long, stringy chips, bird nests, etc. It's supposed to save the operator downtime from having to pause or stop the machine cycle in order to clear chip accumulations.

Active Chip Breaking or ACB as Tornos calls it is some advanced machine tech that does what you saw. It uses low frequency vibrations throughout the machine to increase chip breaking rate. Lots of other companies have it in other words but it is super handy nonetheless

For those who don't get the point, long chips can cause a bunch of issues, including but not limited to jamming the bit or overheating.

On the Citizen L20s and L32s i use LFV (low frequency vibration). Been using it for a few years and its insanely helpful on materials that wont break a chip. Ive taken parts with 18 min cycle times down to 6 minutes by reducing the amount of passes needed. Im the only one in the shop that invested the time to understand it and management took notice.

Surely it must produce chatter at some more occasions than normal, doesn't it?

Might just be me lol but I prefer the normal chips. Especially when drilling deeper holes. They tend to clear out better.

This is intriguing, how would you achieve it ?, breaking the advance of the tool by a rate of KHZ?

Ok, now what acb stand for and what does it do?

Is it a super fast peck? I can't see what's going on

Hmm, what’s the point of flutes if the bit isn’t spinning, the chips are only going to progress actively when gravity is pulling them into the piece

I like the part where he explained what it is and how it works

Not exactly the G Code I was thinking. But yes, a g code all the same.

Has anyone done any work analyzing any acoustic or frequency resonating qualities of these? Part of me thinks these may be simply a record or byproduct, like a mold for example, of some other process done to the stone. I cant help but feel like they acoustic theory is still at play with these. Either way these are almost certainly not for holding oils, unless their construction was just completely trivial. I love how mysterious these are for seemingly simple "vases."

Depends how long you want that cutter to last, and how many parts you need to ship out

You're getting 2 different chips like that beacuse of the last drills diameter is inside another close diameter. Causeing the chips to form that way. I never drilled large to small in that order, but Im guessing its beacuse how close the o.d. is at the collet.

Is this not just lifted from Citizen LFV?

I’m in a copper only department and we struggle to get chips to break, I wonder if this code would work on my Dmg mori ecoturn 450
