Excel - Create a Custom Sort List

Excel sorts by numbers, dates, text, and color. Excel will also sort by Custom List. For example, maybe you need to sort July to June or October to September for fiscal years. You can also make a custom sort list for job titles. Possibly all Directors need to show up before Managers. Managers show up before Admin. You have to create a custom sort list before using it. The great news is a custom sort list stays on your computer. It is per file or worksheet.

Windows - Create a custom sort list
Click File
Click Options
Click Advanced
Click Edit Custom List
Import
Click OK twice

Mac - Create a custom sort list
On the Excel menu, click Preferences, and then under Formulas and Lists, click Custom Lists. Click Add. Type the values for your list in the order that you want them sorted, with a comma between each value. When you are finished, click Add, and then close the Custom Lists box.

Oh my gosh THANK YOU SO MUCH, I have to sort something similar but instead of 1 year its at least 10 years of data and it usually takes me 1 hour just to sort it. And if I make a mistake in my analysis I usually have to sort it again, I tried making a unique custom sort but got stuck at the import part, (I tried to paste it instead of importing it). Well long story short you helped me so much thank you, I'm 25 years old.
