Not bringing up "Amish Paradise" or "The Saga Begins" when talking Weird Al is borderline criminal.

I was wondering, out loud, at the end, "why no Amish paradise?"
Then my brother said, "maybe they didn't wanna offend anyone."
To which I said, " bro, they're Amish, I don't think they are going to see it."

Blunt gave permission but the record label denied the request. Fun Fact: Weird AL doesn't need permission to parody a song but he always asks out of respect for the artist.

Word Crimes isn't just amazing because it's a good song in its own right while being a parody of another song, but also because it's legitimately educational while still being fun.

On "he really doubled down on the food thing"

When he asked Kurt Cobain about covering Smells Like Teen Spirit, Cobain thought it was going to be about food, and when Weird Al explained the joke was about how nobody could understand it, Cobain expressed that was pretty fucking hilarious

Literally everyone: *"but where's amish paradise?"*

5:26 The other thing you guys need to know is, when Weird Al contacted Kurt about doing a parody, Kurt actually said to him "Will it be about food", and Al found that funny because it showed Kurt was a fan

When 'White N' Nerdy' came out, it was back in the Myspace days, and Chamillionaire changed the music on his MySpace page to Al's version for, like, a week.

The saddest thing about this is you guys didn't see comparisons of some of his best work. Amish paradise, the saga begins, eat it, and pretty fly for a rabai

Fun fact: Weird Al did “Smells Like Nirvana” on the same set and with many of the same actors as the original Nirvana song “Smells Like Team Spirit.”

Weird Al"s lyrics are so well written that a ten second clip doesn't do the performances justice. "Word Crimes" in particular still amazes me how much legit info he crams into it. High schoolers could learn a lot by memorizing those lyrics

Ya'll were not alive when Smells Like Teen Spirit first debuted on MTV.

Literally nobody could understand the lyrics of the song. It played at number one for a like 2 weeks receiving tons of complaints. Eventually MTV gave up and added subtitles to the original video.

That's why Al's parody is about not being able to understand the lyrics and is subtitled.

Also... Nirvana gave the set of the Smells Like Teen Spirit music video to all for the parody. Its literally shot in the exact same location.

But the best Weird Al song is “Amish Paradise”... how’d you miss that?!? I can’t listen to the original without singing Weird Al’s version!

I heard Don McLean say in an interview that his kids loved Weird Al's The Saga Begins and played it at home over and over, so much so that Don said he has to be so careful in concert to sing the original, even when the Weird Al lyrics are floating around in his head.

I've got to admit that I was severely disappointed that these men could not truly appreciate the intelligence that goes into writing a good parody. I was sure they'd notice how smart "Word Crimes" (Blurred Lines) was, but then I quickly realized it was over their heads. It's a great song!

I feel that "Word Crimes" in genius! Al is very intelligent and it takes a great deal of work to make a parody, let alone make one that is so smart!

I can’t believe they didn’t put Micheal Jackson on the list. Eat It and Fat are two of Al's best songs

We need to immediately market that good bye dance, Daniel.

Al doesn't do insult parodies, he does loving parodies. Songs he enjoys and thinks of a silly way to spin the melody into a new tune. He's the King of Parody not because he insults other artists, but because he appreciates their work.

No. Word Crimes is truly a masterpiece. One of the first parodies my parents ever showed me, for SCHOOL. It's iconic, and it's absolutely hysterical to the grammar nerds that are a lot of Weird Al's audience. Combined with how problematic Blurred Lines is, that ranking is incorrect.
