The 1st Sony Mirrorless Camera I Want To Buy: The Sony A7C

This is my first proper review of a Sony camera on my channel. I do own a full Sony-Minolta DSLR system, but I decided to go with Fujifilm when it came to a mirrorless camera system. I've always respected what Sony was doing in the full-frame mirrorless realm, but I wasn't interested... until now. The new A7C is smaller and lighter than my Fujifilm X-H1, X-T4 and X-Pro3, even though it has a larger sensor. We know sensor size isn't everything, but it does matter if you're shooting in low-light or you're looking for more shallow depth of field. The Sony E-Mount also has more support for third party lenses and accessories. Please enjoy my first impressions of the Sony A7C with the FE 20mm f/1.8G lens. This isn't a very technical review, and my knowledge of the Sony eco-system is somewhat limited, so if I say something wrong or inaccurate, please share below, but please do so politely. I appreciate it. I have more Sony review gear coming, so stay tuned.

Wait. You're touching a Sony?? Cue the "I'll keep my Fujifilm" comments from everyone. hahah... I like what Sony is doing here as well. Case in point 4:58. The Fuji got jealous.

A well presented overview of this camera. I have had an A7iii since it first came out. I have been very happy with it.

Just found your channel, and I am LOVING it! :) phenomenal review. I also own an A7c with that 20 mm G lens. It is phenomenal for quite a few applications, socially unimposing, sits on a gimbal perfectly, and has such a close focusing distance.

Thanks for the review. The Video Autofocus and huge lens selection are having me considering this camera and perhaps parting ways w/ my Fuji XT-3.

Excellent review. I do not feel left out with my a6500 asp-c camera. It makes a great body to hook up to my 200-600 zoom turning it into a 300-900mm lens. I do look forward to getting one later when the next version is made.

I never really thought you had a big head, but seeing how your hat fits... I get it now. Aside from that, thanks for putting this together!

A7C wishlist: for me would be 10 bit color. For wifey, she was very impressed by the beauty feature of the ZV-1. So I think, add the product feature option, the beauty filter feature and the other ZV-1 easy mode features (for people who just want to shoot without thinking about ANY camera settings), I think that's winner.

All I want is a full spec mirrorless in a smaller package except maybe a really niche top spec. Exactly what Apple has done with the iPhone 12 Mini, you get 90% of a 12 Pro.

My wishlist :
* compact range finder style body but confortable (like a baby x-pro)
* good battery life (like in this Sony A7C)
* joystick
* double card slots
* great touch and articulate screen (like Canon)
* great evf (resolution and size)
* great AF (with phase detection)
* 10 bit video internally

I think it’s all but of course also compact but great full frame lenses (like the Nikon Z 1.8 primes).

Frankly I was excited for the Panasonic S5 et Sony A7C but just the evf resolution is a deal breaker. I still want to try the Pana because the LCD panel in the evf seems to be a good one.

I have been using my A7C for a month now and never once used the EVF or wished for a 2d card slot. 10 bit 4.2.2 would be nice though or at least a better menu!

The menu button at 13:31 is a little confusing, but it seems like such a solid product aside from that

Sony seems to use smaller viewfinders with less resolution on this price level of camera. Nikon Z6 series uses .5" viewfinder with adjustable brightness levels and higher resolution.

I was excited when the A7C was first released. But with the lack of joystick and front dial, I was turned off. I'm a current Fuji X-E3 user and like having those. Perhaps wait for the Sony A7IV as the rumored specs seems amazing.

I know what you mean about the A7c's rangefinder aesthetic. I own Leica M bodies & lenses, and the A7c is very similar with the addition of the ergonomic grip. I use my Leica M lenses on the A7c along with an autofocusing adapter, so I have M lenses with autofocus. I don't do blogging, hardly do video anymore. I'm an art photographer, and for my needs, the A7c is excellent.

Nice review. For myself I have bought the Fuji x-s10 for 970€. Sony would be cost me 1899€ (2099€-200€ cashback). Even a XT 4 would be cheaper. Sony price tag is way beyond of anything which I can justify. Especially if you add the lens prices. The XT30/X-S10 is at the moment the best bang for the buck.

I wonder how you'd rate this against Panasonic's S5? If Panny keeps improving their AF and makes a rangefinder-styled FF camera, I may be tempted.

Nice review, Take. The body size is very compact, but the lenses are still large compared to APS-C and M43 systems. Do you have any recommendations for small/compact lenses for the A7C?
