Canned coconut milk (1 cup):
Fat—58g
Carb—13g
Fiber—5g
Net carb—8g
Potassium—631g

Silk coconut milk (1 cup):
Fat—4g
Carb—1g
Potassium—310g

Depending on what type of coconut milk you get, it’s going to be more or less keto-friendly, but even 8g of carbs aren’t too bad. You just want to make sure you have less than 20g-30g of carbs per day to really get into ketosis.

Overall, is coconut milk keto-friendly? Yes. And, it works great in coffee and in all kinds of keto-friendly recipes.

Coconut water (1 cup):
Fat—0.5g
Carb—11g
Potassium—600mg
Sodium—282mg

A lot of people consume coconut water for electrolytes because the potassium/sodium ratio is pretty good. I do think the carbs are a bit too high for keto. But, depending on how many other carbs you have in a day, you may still be able to get away with it. It’s definitely much better than juice or soda.

From watching you for quite sometime I have lost weight from fasting …IF … I eat 1 meal per day and no snacking after 3 pm… I do my own keto … I walk min 2 hr per day usually 3 or more 6 days, nothing else . My gym membership was useless for me.
I’m a 6 or 8 5’10”” tall and senior female, most people can’t believe my age . Never smoke anything, rarely drink alcohol, once or twice a year .
I listen to you weekly . Watching dr Now of 600lb man helps a lot too..’
Thank you for all you do to help people be healthy .

The sugar content in coconut water is determined by the age of the fruit young coconuts have far less sugar than the fully ripe ones here in Barbados we use the young ones as a diuretic

We regularly consume coconut milk. Mostly 3 days in a week. But we make it fresh from the coconuts and not the canned milk. So there are no preservatives in the milk or any of the nasty stuff. My wife adds raw cacao powder, stevia, cinnamon powder and Cardamom powder to it and it tastes like a chocolate milk shake. It helps us to keep our hunger away and it's also a good reward for having eaten our keto meals.

Dear Dr. Berg: I want to acknowledge how much you help me in my day to day life. I've lost track of all the little things I've learned from you that enhance my life and health. But one thing I know is that your efforts to keep us informed add up to me sticking to the four courses of vitamins on my daily schedule. It's as if you keep me company and make following "the plan" possible.

Coconut is brain food. Organic canned coconut milk: refrigerate overnight (at least), flipping the can sometimes makes it easier to separate cream (coffee, recipes, topping, whipped and you really do not need to add sweetener) and water (drink in place of sport drinks, the amount of carbs during or after exercise/work is not much concern or even extra energy to burn, vs sedentary).

I buy the coconut milk that’s in a can that’s organic from Native Forest and it’s BPA free. I use it when I’m making my mushroom, cacao or turmeric lattes. It’s delicious and so creamy.. I usually mix it with it with some filtered water when I’m making it…Thanks Dr. Berg!

In subtropical and tropical regions coconut water has always been used for electrolyte replenishment. In my home country of India, the people who engage in outdoor labor intensive activities, where they sweat profusely, coconut water was the drink of choice. Granted, most of these people are not insulin resistant, so the few amount of carbs that are in the coconut water don't have the adverse effects they would to a heavily insulin resistant sedentary office worker.

In the Philippines, it's famous for elderly to recommend drinking coconut water for a week when having UTI or kidney stones. They say it can flush it out. And somehow it works. Maybe the high amount of potassium causes it 😮
