It's really great to see ol' Chalkboard John's heartfelt appreciation for Flip the Table. That's how I feel about Tom, Sam and Zee! I relate to John's comments about listening while you work, and I know what a meaningful role these kinds of shows can play in your daily experience. They can become part of what defines an era in your life, creating memories you'll never forget; and though the relationship isn't usually reciprocal, it can still be quite meaningful.

Interesting Series Chaz. I've been thinking and discussing the boom and bust potential, specifically in relation to comics.
The situations aren't the same, but some similarities exist.

In 'The Chalk' segment, John mentions that the podcast 'Flip the Table' is sort of like MST3K but for board games. Just nice to hear there are still Misties out there. Now, I have a new podcast to look forward to. Thanks John.
Chad's new series will be interesting as well. The hobby has indeed exploded. My concern for the hobby is that it is becoming less of a craft made with skill and love, and more of a market product...you know, the stuff made just for money.

One of the major reasons for the comic book industry decline wasn’t just that they flooded the market. One of the main issues was they went too “collectible”. Everyone saw the really old and rare comic’s sell for a boatload of money and decided it was a good investment. Demand went sky high and comic companies over compensated.
They made 1 in 200 covers, 1 in 500 covers. They made limited edition covers and collectors series. Too much glut.
But I do agree there are way too many bad games coming out right now. I personally don’t think it will lead to a crash though. There are still a lot of high quality games out there and continue to be made.

When Jason said he doesn't look at the ratings because some might rate something a 10 and some a 1 so they don't mean as much. Well that's the best argument to rate the games yourself. The more people take the time to rate games seriously the less effect the wide swings affect the final number.
