Solomode:

I don't have a strict system for how I organize my games on the shelf. I tend to revisit it every now and then to see whether there should be a change to it. I have a couple of red threads I follow, like every unplayed game sits at the top row and towards the left (right now the entire top row is unplayed because of Essen), so that I always keep them in mind when choosing what to get to the table (and once I get them to the table I find them a new spot on the shelf). I have also marked off a few sections of the shelf to be specifically for games that work with 5 players (because it used to be an issue where we would get game nights with 5 players and every game suggested would always max out at 4 - so I decided to really highlight the options we have in those situations). Other than that I try to group games that I feel fit together in one way or another, but only as far as box size allows me to, as I want to optimize what I can fit onto the shelf. I store most games horizontally as that makes it easier for me to pull games out to play.

Inside the games, I tend to use boxes for most components. Card boxes for cards, individual or plano-boxes for the pieces. If components require blind draw/distribution, I'll likely use cloth bags. Basically anything I can to make set-up and clean-up quicker and easier. It helps that I love organizing, so I think it's fun to sit a couple of hours and figure out how to optimally store and organize everything :)

@Tom - Very excited about this contest and Glenn Drover seems like a really lovely, genuine person. I'm glad you got to have a conversation with him for this episode.
@Jen - I love seeing how the board gaming community really helps people and for this wonderful lady to raise that amount of money is fantastic.
@ Works of Art - Fox in the forest is definitely a game I would like to check out now, thank you. Art is also SO important to me within games.
@ Tantrum House - I will definitely be watching that playthru on your channel very shortly.
@The Pitch - Hilarious as always, thank you.

Thanks everyone, another great episode.

Loved the cardboard Rhino segment (as usual). Not heard of Cerebria the card game and will definitely be looking into it. Thanks!

Mike, I am absolutely on your side of the fence when it comes to being organized. My collection is rather shelved where the boxes still fit. I thought of the idea to organize them in a thematic way but then a new game comes in and distracts me enough to shift this effort to the bottom of my list. One upside of the chaos is that I am constantly running into all kind of games when I am searching for a particular one. Helps to add variety to my picks and kind of a game of hide and seek itself.... may be one rainy day...

The Creator segment you've been doing lately is excellent. Really good show overall today.

Glory Houndd, your segment was helpful. I hadn't heard of several of those games. Thanks! Plus, your hair color is fantastic!

For the Tom think's segment: The panda from Takenoko, love letter princess, and apple from apples to apples are well known and iconic

I believe the Clue characters are pretty popular in the mainstream. Also, while no specific characters from Guess Who are mentioned, I've been hearing jokes like "you look like a Guess Who character" lately.

Mike - my gaming area doesn't really have shelving @ this point, but a long "counter" over some low cabinets, so all mine are laid flat. However, I still do some organizing in that there is a co-op section, party game section (in the closet), and the rest are somewhat grouped/ordered from lower complexity to higher. The latter makes it easier to pick from during the "all come" game nights when not all are gamer-types.

Solo Mode, I organize my games by theme. I have "non fiction" sections for geographic areas of the globe, ordered by time period where I can within that. Then in the "fiction" sections I try to organize by a general theme like "horror" or "magical fantasy" etc. I also have a "giant obscene kickstarter" shelf for Feudum, Gloomhaven, etc.

Game Organization on the shelves - Before I got my new shelves it was how they fit... now the type of game, family/gateway, party, euro/strategy tend to be near one another on the shelves. Horizontally and Vertically... I prefer vertically because it is easier to pull the game out, but will go horizontally if the game requires it to keep the pieces from getting jumbled around (Lords of waterdeep. Star Wars: the Queen's Gambit, etc). Also the long old style games like Clue:the Museum Caper rest on top of the shelves due to the space required. My system will likely be adapted as new games come in or as space becomes more limited.

The dice of DnD are pretty iconic, I think. Other than that, the ressouces of Catan is th only one I can think of.

Solo Mode "if it fits it sits" except I do place them flat horizontally otherwise components fall down inside the box

Solomode: I organize vertically by game weigh in bgg. That way my friends can easily pick how heavy game they want to play.

Solomode: I organize vertically because it’s easier to pull out and alphabetically so that I can locate them easily. My shelves are 2 levels so smaller games on top level and bigger games at the 2 level.
